What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

A lot of things make a good barlow, but WHO makes a good barlow? Waynorth and the crew at GEC, that much we know for darn sure!

Well said - agreed - and the knife at the horizontal position and in the bottom picture is my favorite of your collection. Many nice ones you have, but, is my favorite your favorite?

:)

Congrats Primble! I know how much you wanted one of these Charlows. Glad you found one good sir.

Thank you Brett. I suppose I will quit worrying you half to death, trying to pry your hands off your knife, and now you can rest easier, knowing that a man in a black mask is not going to steal your knife.

Indeed it is! I purchased that one directly from Charlie on Friday. He said it is one of the very first few made, as identified by the extremely shallow saw- cutting on the bone. I've been hunting for a long pull spearpoint for well over a year now, and I believe fate had a say in this one. Charlie said he didn't even know that he had one left until he found it by surprise while unpacking knives at the rendezvous that morning. I still can't believe that no one else bought it before I got there! I was (and am) completely thrilled!

We must be on the same brain wave... I was just discussing the super shallow saw cut copperheads with jon_slider! Here is mine:

Quite the difference in the saw cuts from run to run! Here is the deeper saw cut PPP antique yellow and the '13 pile side run with pile side pens.

Philll, You have a prototype. Charlie changed the saw-cut depth before the production knives were released.

Close... it's from the very first run, but only Charlie has the prototype

Here's another marking for you, Jon! I completely forgot about this one. I just found it while looking for TIWs and PPPs for you! The first one finished, Bill sent it to confirm details. On subsequent batches of Bone, the sawcut is slightly deeper. I think the first "copperheads" were the only ones (like this one) with the more shallow sawcut.

A real, no BS prototype!!

I love this forum... Now I just need to get a Charlow/Barlow single blade Sheepsfoot so I can show it! Amazing knives. Thanks for sharing.

That Barlow is a class act! I love everything about it, the Bone and color of it, and the Sheepfoot! AND . . .the Canadian Penny!!

They have done away with the Canadian one cent coin, so keep it!! It might be worth more than a penny some day!!
