What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

That is so cool to see all the different stamps, Thanks!!

Several have eluded me: Remington, Ulster with "OK" bolsters, EMPIRE, XLNT, I*XL, KA-BAR-LO, TRYON, etc.... but the hunt is fun.

Thanks for posting Al. Great knives and I agree, the Hibbard looks well made.
You're welcome, Mark and thanks!

Al, thanks for sharing those. Love that Hibbard.
Thanks, Brett. The Hibbard is one of my favorites. Strong springs, half-stops... just a really solid knife.

AMAZING collection, and well shot too! :)
Thank you very much!

Thanks Al!!! Very nice collection, and pics!!
I agree, the Bolster stamps are the key appeal to an otherwise good knife!!
The stamps make them great!!

Thanks, Charlie! ... you inspired me (and many others) to collect the beloved barlow. I've learned a ton reading your posts and looking at your pictures.

@ Al, thanks for the additional pictures and info:thumbup:
You're welcome, Paul and thanks!

Now if I could just learn to take pictures like Primble! I shall endeavor to persevere. :D

Primble, home-run on restoring that...uh...Primble. :) It looks well taken care of but historic. Nicely balanced.

What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow? Sawcut bone that's what! "I got a fever and the only prescription is more sawcut!":D

Seriously!!! I picked up a Blackwood from this run - and was lucky to - but missed out on the sawcut, which came out fantastic. From what Mike has said it seems as though there will be another run of these #77 Marlows and I'm not gonna miss the sawcut next time. Plus, I have a rust red sawcut Charlow - my first Charlow - coming in the next two days, so that should ease the pain a bit... 😉

Thank you so much for that comment, as that was my goal, and I am very glad that you saw it as I hoped for.:)

Nice Northfield Mark. :)

Just heard rumor of an upcoming run of red soup bone Charlows. Any truth?

Do you know if there is any truth to that? Just wondering cause I don't want to miss out this time.....

It seems there is... Don't quote me on that though.

Don't what, now?

:p

Charlie, the more I see of barlow offerings old and new, the more I appreciate how well you and Bill chose and executed the proportions and distinctives of your Tom's Choice line.

I look forward to whatever you think of up next, but am often stopped still by the excellence of what you have already brought forth. Well done!

A dealer told me, but he wasn't exactly sure on the designs.

And Charlie himself told me there is going to be a Dec. run of Barlows.

That's all I know.

It is darn hard to put the Cat bag in the Bag!!!

So everyone doesn't have to "Reply with Quote" I will explain at the top of the next page!!

I'm sorry Charlie. I figured it was public since you told me. I figured you wouldn't've said anything to me if you didn't want anyone to know. Particularly cause I didn't even ask when the next run is.

Now that I think about it, I probably just caused an avalanche of emails to fall on you. All apologies. 😁
