What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Man, walking those old streets, tippling at that old pub - I'd be seeing ghosts for sure!
Wonder what the bitter tasted like in the 1800s?
:D

When you get out of the town centres, a lot of history is still remarkably preserved here Charlie. Even in the centres of large cities, there's still plenty of history :)

Based on the quantities those old cutlers drank, I'd say that 1800's bitter must have tasted pretty good! It was certainly an awful lot less expensive, and far safer to drink than the water! :D

Thanks Jack for posting this English history concerning the way Barlows were made across the pond! Much appreciated.

Yeah, more likely you'd wake up with those knives sandwiched between your face and the bar and a whole set of Barlow impressions! :p :D

Have a great new year my friend

Oops! Sorry, I thought you meant of Duncan! ;) :D

That must be one of the "case knives" Tom and Huck were intending to use to dig their way way out of Jim's impromptu cell my friend ;) :D

Very Funny Sir Jack :grumpy::grumpy:

A single sheepfoot blade makes a perfect traditional barlow (for me).

I think Charlie mentioned something about a new run of TC barlows with a sheepfoot blade a little while ago.

Does anyone know if it'll have a long pull or a regular nail nick?

Two new old Barlows with no cracks or chips in the bone handles. Keen Kutter and Robeson. Happy New Year!

Two great Barlows, Mark! Way to start the New Year!!

That's a dandy pair of oldies Mark! Both iconic examples of the cutler's art. :)

Some favorite barlows (and a jack):

A Sheepfoot collection, and a backup Sheepfoot collection,
Why do I recognize the contributing character traits??
Nice Barry!!

Unfortunately, a number of 'em are now with new owners as I had to meet financial obligations. :grumpy:
