What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Beautiful knives, Charlie. Make sure to order 500+ from GEC so we can all get one! :D

Palo Santo with sheep foot looks great from where I sit. I expect it will be on the want list of many.:)

Wow! The Palo Santo looks great Charlie; The sheepfoot is my favorite blade style.

That's a great collection, Evan. Nicely arranged; It would look good in a display case!

You will have another one to collect in a month or so. I am trying a new wood for the next Barlow edition, called Palo Santo!
Bill made up a couple of samples - I believe one is in the mail, but here are some pictures from GEC.

The wood is very dense, like Lignum Vitae. It sinks like a stone in water!
It has a nice odor when it is sanded or burned. It is worth looking it up!!

The Wood looks great Charlie-it has more subtle undertones - compared to The Brazilian...and I am glad that you have retained the Real Sheepsfoot Etch with the later run on the Sheepsfoot instead of changing it - as I really love that Etch!!!

Mmmhmmm, do I love me some wood scales on a TC! View attachment 503531

This is not quite the complete set of wood handled TC barlows (I think I'm missing 6 or 7 of 'em).

If I could only get my hands on some of that Brazilian Rosewood...View attachment 503530

Real nice collection of beauties there Evan!! Just awesome!!

Thanks for the comments folks!
Bill tells me it finishes real nice, with almost no visible porosity.
I upped the numbers, Bob, so hopefully they will go around.

I keep Palo Santo in sticks around the house for the purpose of burning. An incredible smelling precious wood not unlike sandal wood. I'll be very glad to get one if I do.

I was not familiar with Palo Santo, but my google search is telling me that its just another name for Lignum Vitae. Very nice looking Barlows Charlie. I certainly will keep an eye out for those.

According to Wiki its a relative of lignum vitae.

Bulnesia sarmientoi is a tree that inhabits a part of the Gran Chaco area in South America, around the Argentina-Bolivia-Paraguay border. Its wood is often traded as Argentine lignum vitae or Paraguay lignum vitae, since it has properties and uses similar to the "true" lignum vitae trees of genus Guaiacum, which are close relatives. Another trade name is "vera" or "verawood", which may also refer to the even more closely related B. arborea. Another common but rather ambiguous name is "palo santo" (Spanish: "holy wood").

Nice work on the new Sheepsfoot Charlie, it looks good my friend

Heiliger Dankgesang, Evan!! :thumbup::eek::eek::thumbup:
Those are a couple of absolutely amazing "circles of life" (apologies to the Lion King)!!!
What's the "oldie" about 3:30-4 o'clock that looks like a barlow version of an electricians' knife??

Thought I would show off a bit  and post my entire Barlow collection. I've been looking at it for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on it. It's got the three features that were a requirement for me. The first was a good stainless steel and the second was no half stops. It also had to be 3 3/8 to 3 ½ closed. Walk & talk, fit & finish, it's all good and I couldn't be happier with it.

Congrats on the Canal Street barlow! They really are a great knife. Have you looked at the version they made for Kabar yet? It has the same exact blades and blade steel but has some nice jigged bone scales and copper bolsters. By far one of my favorite knives I own. The copper is fun to watch the patina change daily. It's very easy to make copper look new again and start over with the patina as well.

Thanks, the picture doesn't do it justice but a better picture will have to wait. Yesterday it was 8 degrees so led lighting above my work bench will have to do.

I sure have and yours I like. So please don't temp me with any more pictures.
I'm going to pick up another, just waiting to see what handle material CSC or Kabar come out with next. Hoping I don't have to wait to long.

Jake, mine aren't any where as cool as that Ka-bar, but they'll have to do.

A nice little Camco and a Kutmaster that I guess was a sales sample? Check out the ads on the mark and pile side.

Both have steel bolsters and the Kutmaster has some pitting but the blades are factory on both.

Thanks for lettin' me play

Peace and Love
