Thanks for the kind comments on the knives folks![]()
So, you are an old knife collector. . .that is, you might be young, but you collect old knives. Then again, if you are like me, you are old AND you collect old knives; among other things!
Close your eyes and use your imagination. OK, open your eyes so you can read this, but still . . . . . use your imagination!
What would make a top-notch traditional Barlow?? Something rare and beautiful - a gracefully curved Barlow maybe. Rarest pattern!
Put some darkened stag on it, the way some Sheffield-trained cutlers did it in the middle 1800s!
Facet and step the bolster! Proudly stamp your name on that Bolster!!
Stamp it on the blades too!
Put an interesting, useful, and rare blade in the knife. Swedge the blade with a cut from the long pull!
Make the joints clean and square! Use it respectfully! Maybe lose it in a desk drawer for 90 years or so, so Charlie can find it when he grows up!!
Savor the patina!! Look at the hand-peened steel pins; savor them too!
Your eyes are open! You are not dreaming!!
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL old Camillus, Charlie! Top notch!
WOW Charlie That is one more awesome Camillus:thumbup::thumbup:

Charlie, that one is a beauty, what a Barlow.
Wow Charlie! That is pretty sick.![]()
Lovely old Camillus, Charlie!
That Camillus really hits all the high points. If I ever came across one of those I think I would just hang up my collecting hat and call it a day. Wow!
LOL, I guess not hence the name Camillus. I hope to find a knife like that some day.Amazing find Charlie, such a great specimen of a hard use barlow that wasn't used very had. Is it from Adolph Kastor's time on Canal street?![]()
