What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Galvanic Nice Ulster Sir.

Charlie. The Camiluus photos have been visited by me often. I have to say that it has to be one of the better knives I have seen. I absolutely love every thing about it.

Glad you are enjoying it, Duncan!!

I think I have finally found my own truly righteous Barlow...or at least what I want a Barlow to be. This is a 77 pattern that I missed out on because my email filtered out the email from Collector Knives, so I out out a feeler on the WTB forum and found this. It has absolutely insane stag, so deeply craggy you could almost hide in it. The blades are super tight and the entire knife is just gorgeous. This will be my EDC for a little while.

I will have to agree with you. That stag has a beautiful texture and color! You scored an excellent piece. Enjoy!

I will double that! Best looking stag I've ever seen on any of the #77 Barlows:thumbup:, period!

I really like that one Charlie, everything will eventually be put right, sometimes sooner than later. Mike keep your eyes open :),and that is another amazing barlow.Congratulations friends.

Am I dreaming...that curvy Camillus barlow is unbelievable!!!. I missed the post until now. What a feast for the senses!!!

The Ulster is a stunner as well!

Man I love this place!! :D

I've had this knife for a few weeks now (received it brand new) and I've been deciding whether or not to make a post about this. I'm also not sure if this is an ok place to make this kind of post, but if it's not I guess someone will let me know. So, this red soup bone TC barlow is perfect in every way except for the top swedge on the show side of the knife. It is clearly ground much further than on the other side and is not straight. I was wondering if I should think of this as a minor imperfection and just deal with it, or if I should be more upset. Any thoughts would be appreciated, and if this type of post is not acceptable here then I apologize.

Well, I wouldn't let it upset me, but it does look like a "second".
Email me, and we will get you fixed up.

My anniversary Barlow also has a minor imperfections. Above the long pull. A very lightly unfinished edge maybe. Kind of wabi sabi.

Thinking about adding another coat of Potassium Permanganate, but, maybe not !

The amber is showing up a little darker in the pictures than it actually is. ;)

Primble, the TC looks excellent. I like the even patina with a touch of highlights along the swege! This is moving me a bit closer to trying this out. Of course as always your photography skills are inspiring.

Hey Primble, excellent job on that dye! I think you actually brought out more of the nice hues inside the bone. A little trick, when you're finished dying the bone, add a little carnuba wax to seal the dye and keep it from fading. It looks very antique now!

Thank you for the comments and advice Perry - Additionally, I appreciate your instructions earlier, concerning the dye job with PP. ;):)
