Sean, GREAT Barlow:thumbup:

Todd, Thank you my friend---really the team or the game pales in comparison to time spent with my boy's---the victory was a bonus:cool:

Hoooly smokes. That bone is phenomenal. A perfect example as there ever was.

I agree with that! This Case XX represents one of the hay days of the brand, Paul! It has absolutely everything going for it, great color, stamped bolster, saw cut and kind of soup bone-ish too! Just a great mid century Case! Congrats buddy!

Lookin' good, Marko! :D

That was my first slipjoint mod. It had a pen blade with a broken spring that I removed, and I filed the kick way down so the main blade's tip doesn't stick out when closed. Still got a bit of life left in it!

Sean and Dave-Great older Barlows-and fantastic shots...a real treat to see...

Speaking of treats...Paul - that Red Bone is simply superb - that and Peach Seed just take the cake for the Ultimate scales:eek: just amazing, and I love your shots too Brother

Nice work Phillll! I am honored to own the first Philllll Mod! That baby has solid snap and it does have life in it for sure!

You are hooked now  knife modding is addicting! I can't wait to see your next project! :D:D:D

Patent # 3,317,996

Here's some interesting bolster information I haven't seen before. The above patent is for a way to manufacture bolsters that can be installed as a last step in manufacturing a pocket knife. There are no pins that go all the way through the knife, they're molded into the bolster and are peened inside the liner. This may be old news to some, or most maybe! But it's new to me.
This is probably not the way most of us want our knives put together, but maybe it helped keep these old knives so cheap.

The patent is held in the name of the Colonial Knife Co. I'm not sure if this makes for a great barlow but it surely made for a less expensive one. Check out the attorney's name at the lower right of the pictures.

Here's the barlow that got me wondering about this.

Spent some more time with the Lansky last night bringing this old gal back to life. popping hair now!

The blade is a great letter opener Rob.:D

I spent the better part of the day with these two Barlows, which arrived here at 9:00 a.m. this morning. I went to work on them immediately. I had to re-profile blades on both knives and finally got them up to Primble specs by late afternoon. I then added a re-patina on the blades of both the old Robeson and the old Schrade Cut. Co. Barlow. Strong snaps on both and lots of life left in them :

I normally never show a before picture, but, since this Schrade was way rougher than anything that I normally purchase, I thought the after was drastically different from the before condition:
