What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I grew up with nail nicks. Didn't know what a long-pull was, 'til I discovered GEC and TC Barlows. ;) I still prefer nail nicks. This early (not PPP early) Charlow is my only long-pull spear blade.

I may prefer clip blades and nail nicks, but I can appreciate the beauty of a long-pull spear, especially when it comes on a beautiful redbone TC Barlow!

Primble - These are 2 beauties. I absolutley love the patina and the "Old Vintage" look that you have given them :thumbup::thumbup:

Excellent patina!

Thank you guys! :thumbup::)

Seeing all of these spear point Charlows really makes me lament selling off my Charlows.

I can be reached thru PM ! :eek::eek::confused::rolleyes::D

Great knife Scott. :thumbup::)

There are some nice pics of the new Charlows on the GEC website: palo santo sheepfoots under construction. I tried to figure out how to repost them here, but the pictures were too small and low resolution. Maybe someone else can repost them here.

Here are a couple of pics that I enlarged:

Beautiful wood, clearly different from the walnut or Che Chen rosewood in color and grain. I love the grain and the lighter color!

A few snippets of info from GEC:
The Palo Santo is hard wood to work. They are struggling along, but doing a nice job of it!
They are saving me the sawdust and cut-off pieces, so I can "smudge" my house and drive off the rust bunnies and other bad spirits!;)
The Bone is just going into the dye baths, so it will be a little while before we see it.
There is a surprise insert going into each tube - no buttons this time, but I think everyone will like what they find!

Over and out!

Thanks Al and Sean for importing those Palo Santo pictures. :thumbup:
That wood looks much nicer in person. It has a depth of activity going on, like tiger-eye.

Oh yes! What was that big word Charlie taught us? Chatoyance! The tiger's eye effect that appears in some types of wood. I sure hope I can see that up close!

Charlie, I love the legend of the Palo Santo, that it is a wood that rids bad spirits and causes good luck.

Hoping to get one of those. Heaven knows I need it. :)

I wonder what Charlie has in store for us on the next round of spey blades?!

(Sorry, my attention deficit disorder got the best of me there. Back to the subject at hand.)

Here's an interesting TC!!

The Palo Santo sample finally arrived. It has a 2013 blade, but of course it was made a week or two ago.
The wood is eerie!!:eek:
It has chatoyance (I love that word - I hope it is spelled correctly), and as you rotate the knife, the feature lines appear and disappear!!!:eek::confused:
I swear there is another planet inside that knife:rolleyes:!! I can't wait to see more. I scanned it on different backgrounds to see if I could bring out the colors - sort of a subtle rainbow - but you must have it in hand to appreciate it! Pretty amazing!

They have been delayed a little. We thought first of Feb, but now it will be closer to the first of March!!
GEC is very busy - a hive of activity!

Plus, when my wife thinks I'm weird because I'm handling my knife on the couch, I can just say I'm "meditating." You go do your yoga, and I'll just sit here and "heal" with my Palo Santo TC Barlow!
