What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Nothing wrong with the 2nds from a using standpoint. They are still very nice knives. If anything their flaws make it much easier to take them out of their tubes and put them to work, allowing you full enjoyment.

I've only owned two Charlows. One of the first marrow bone clips and an ebony spear PPP. I put the marrow clip to work, saving the spear to take out occasionally and admire. The ebony spear was a wonderful example of the cutler's art. Perhaps the finest GEC I've ever held in my hands. Yet despite its flaws, it was the marrow clip that I was truly fond of. The ebony spear was a great knife, but it just didn't compare to "my" knife.

Quick question, does GEC stamp the 2 in different locations? On my Charlow, the 2 is stamped on the blade itself, not the tang.

Lately I've seen all the 2s stamped on the tang, but I've seen one other older one that had the stamp on the blade like yours. I think maybe it's just up to whoever is stamping the knives that day?

Your knife has sure aged gracefully!

I, like Phil, have only seen 2 with the "2" stamped on the lower part of the blade, near the tang. The rest have been on the tang itself.

Paul--hearty congratulations on such a fine soup-bone specimen. Really outstanding and museum worthy!

Christian - that user is a beauty !!! Thank you all for the encouragement, concerning the copperhead.:)

This is my Antique Yellow Jigged Bone Sheepfoot. I am very pleased with it's handsomeness. I had reserved a Palo Santo, very early on, but, changed my mind, when confronted with a choice between the two. I just had to have this one and reluctantly surrendered the Palo Santo reservation. :)

It is out grazing with my older sheep, this very morning. :D

Got these two in the mail today! Really love the feel of both. A nice return to the TC Sheepfoot and some ebony.

Those are some mighty fine looking knives Sjostygg.

556hunter that Boker looks like it belongs in that setting, Super looking knife that's aged well.

Awesome thanks all for the pics and post. My first knife was my cub scout that I still have. But the knife that started my love afair folders was the Barlow my gramps gave me when I was 9. So thanks for the warm fuzzy memories.

kamagong - Nothing wrong with the 2nds from a using standpoint. That is exactly what I thought!! I was able to acquire a Antique Yellow and Tan Single:D
I am totally happy with both of them The Antique Yellow will be a user, the Tan may stay with the Flock for awhile. No pictures yet, been watching too much BBall :D

FYI, the 2 is stamped above the 15 pattern number on these.

Your TC has a lot of character

Primble - As usual you did well my friend :thumbup:

Yeah, that Paul really does Rock:thumbup: Sending you an awesome TC soupbone on his birthday. Happy Birthday Paul!

Not as fancy as all of these TCs, however I can see myself bonding with this Ulster.

Showed up in way worse shape than the pictures on the big auction site led me to believe. After some oiling and scrubbing it has started to come back to life. The blade wells were filled with what looked like dirt or sawdust.

I'm sure you've heard of the saying "Rode hard and put away wet", that sums up this knife in my opinion
