What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

This is Jon's Palo Santo

The grain on these is like liquid.

...it's a factory 2nd. I missed all the reserves but I kept checking around for these anyhow and got this one through Barry. The only thing wrong is that the scale on the mark side is slightly tapered toward the liner rather than rounded like it should be. It's hard to show it in pictures, it's more noticeable in your hand looking at it but oh well. Everything else is perfect! It doesn't bother me as I will be sure to carry, use, show off and of course, keep the joints oiled.

I have a TC Barlow with the same defect, but it was not called a second and was sold as regular stock. I figured it's bone, a natural material. It's not going to be perfect. And I don't know that there is any way to fix it, unless GEC just keeps spare yellow bone handle covers around. I like it too much to mess with it. So I live with the flaw. Though I might send it back to GEC some day. Can't ignore the tapered bone... But for now, it's a user.

Beautiful pictures showing up here!
I had GEC make and ship 50 more Barlows than we first planned, and they still didn't get to everyone! My apologies!
I will try and release more on the next order!

CC thank you...it's like figuring out the Bermuda Triangle getting a TC but that's the point!! If I can't get anymore TC Barlows but get to spend a week with Earl...I'll be gracious beyond belief!

I was brought up with a common saying "that even a blind Squirrel finds an acorn"
This time I was the very FORTUNATE "Blind Squirrel":o

Redundancy does not diminish the sincerity...Thank you for these wonderful creations Charlie and for a very outstanding dealer that name rhymes with Barry:cool:

I don't have any idea how you scored such a perfectly stunning soup bone, Paul! :thumbup: I wish I knew.

Paul - BLIND:confused: It looks to me like you have 20-20 and also know the secret handshake :D:eek::D I am also thankful to Charlie and Barry and Mike for all they do to help with the habit :D:D

Perry, Ron and fairhaven, Thank you. I've been very fortunate in former runs with other covers but NEVER when it came to SOUP:o

I had searched under every nook and cranny in the knife world but it was always elusive until the Anniversary gem came about:thumbup: Then fate smiled kindly upon me and I truly was fortunate to be the recipient of this recent great specimen.

Beautiful example of soup bone and wonderful photo that reveals that beauty!!! I don't ever recall saying that I am jealous or envious of other member's knives, but, I felt a little twinge of jealousy when I laid my eyes on that TC soup bone. Anytime I get a feeling like that, I try to remember how fortunate that I am to have the knives I have and remind myself that there are others that want them as much as I do and that makes me feel better, in many ways, that others are happy with their acquisitions, like I have been many times. ;):)

Every time I get to thinking that I have enough TC Barlows and that I might slow down on collecting them, that daw-gone Charlie C. comes up with some new and refreshing and outstanding idea and lays a bunch of new models before us and my enthusiasm re-kindles, as strong as before!!! :grumpy::grumpy::D

I remind myself that knife collecting requires a lot of patience and perseverance and I continue my quest to get the ones I need. Although I missed out on all but one of the new sheep models, I have little doubt that my hunt will eventually over-turn the correct stones. ;)

My first soup bone was the Anniversary model too and not long ago, one of the more beautiful saw-cut soup bones that came to me in a trade with Todd. ;)

In the mean time, I have been blessed to find and be given opportunities to find some of the rare older models, which have been uncovered recently. Today, opportunity knocked again and I am so pleased to have the elusive copperhead TC spearpoint PPP headed in my direction.:) That patience of the hunt is the essence of being a knife collector.

I will be sharing my five new to me "old models" in the near future, as I get them photographed.

Now - all I need to do is figure out which stone to turn over to swindle, errr, I mean trade Paul out of his beautiful soup bone.:eek::D:D

Primble, thank you and very well said:thumbup: that sums up how I feel and I assume how many think as well:)

Congrats on your recent find...almost as elusive as the two blade version. I think I'll see a Unicorn before I see a two blade version of the one you acquired today;)

Well done Paul well done! That is one stunning and gorgeous soup bone TC. You must be one hell of a negotiator or charmer to get that one out of someone's grasp. Congratulations on the successful hunt.
