What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Brad, Paul, Sjostygg, and Drew - Thanks so much for the compliments on the FB Barlow.
It was pouring rain when I took a picture last night, so I took this one this morning.

Sjostygg - I used Fiebings dye on the stag. I mixed Mahogany and Light Brown to get the color I liked.

Wow!!! Mark my friend - that is simply a fantastic knife - I love the colour that you did that Stag - and pretty much the rest of the whole knife!!!!! You are a VERY clever guy matey!!!

Drew, your soup is making me hungry. Very appetizing pair. I would love to find another soup. I have the red soup anniversary already.

Great pics of two outstanding Charlows Drew

Drew, I have to chime in, NICE SOUP:D Not only nice Soup but terrific pictures as well...you Primble and Perry been talkin?

Thank you guys for the compliments. The pictures are fun to take, I am always floored by the photography skills displayed here. Case in point Perry's pics above. Flat out impressive. Not to mention drool worthy knives.:D

Paul, thank you! I am no where near the level of Perry and Primble and many others here but it's an honor just to rub elbows with everyone. I respect all of you very much.

What a beautiful brace of barlows, Drew; congrats for sure!!:thumbup: As Paul also noted, the photos are first-rate, too; I dream that some day I'll figure out how to take such clean, well-lit, clearly focused shots! Nice!!

Speaking of phabulous photos, what have you done, Perry?? The last couple of weeks (or has it been a month already) your photos suddenly made a quantum leap forward in quality!:thumbup::thumbup::eek: What's your secret, man?? Inquiring minds want to know.:confused: Anyway, really quality quartet of knives you have there, and the pics really show them off!

I like the tie in of boys to men's Barlow knives and the photographic symmetry of tops to pipes. Classics across generations. Nice work Perry.

Well thanks fellas! I'm blushin a bit now. I gotta tell ya GT, I used to know how to take pictures a certain way, like these now, but I got away from it for so long that I nearly forgot all the factors that play in taking a decent shot. The two main factors are usually lighting and focus related. Thanks Bob for picking up that little tie in. ;)

Love the photos and the knives, Perry. The pipe reminds me of Matt Damon smoking a meerschaum in True Grit. I'll bet Ranger LaBouef had one of those good, traditional Barlows in his pocket!
