What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Holy smokes is that a gorgeous picture!

I'm new to traditional knife collecting, but I absolutely love Barlows and yours look fantastic. Nice work.

Thank you for the comments guys. It is a real challenge to get all the knives laid out and photographed as the sun is setting. This is one taken a few minutes earlier and shadows were still present. I later realized that I had over looked the soup bone spey in my pocket and added it, but, the shadows were absent.

Very nice collection Dean! The #25 in the lower right, what is that, oiled bone? And is it a single blade?

Thanks, I'm working on it. I try to pick up good older ones at shows.

The tube for the 25 just says Smooth White Bone. It's two blades with the pen behind the wharncliffe blade.

Dean, Primble, what a nice collection of Barlow's. It makes me want to change out my 15 for a Barlow for the rest of the day!

Thanks for posting the photos.

Very nice Dean! I have one in Yellow bone with the same blade configuration and it's one of my favorites. Was especially curious to know whether they had made them with a single wharncliffe. I don't think Ive ever seen one. Nice collection, thanks for sharing!

That one is the first GEC I ever bought. I got it from Ryan Daniels at a show in 2008 or 2009 (it's a 250208). I didn't know they did those in yellow bone. That has to be a looker.

Dean : I like your old Barlows , particularly the 1947 to 1954 Camillus ones with the Bone Slabs and 3 pins.

Dean : It took me a while to find my 11 . All I could find were the 2 steel variations of the 51 and I have never found a 10. I just believe Camillus makes the proverbial Barlow as well as being a well made knife. You do have a nice start on your Barlow collection with others that I have been looking for. I assume that your 10 also has 1/2 stop ?

Thanks for the additional comments guys !

Very nice collections from Bob and Dean too !!!:thumbup:;)

Harry, it's more of a half pause, not a half stop on both models. :)

Thanks, Primble. It's slow going as I don't go to as many shows as I'd like. There's also that finite money thing. Wish I had gotten into the TCs earlier.

Very nice collection of Barlows. I am a bit jealous of a couple of them.

Thanks for sharing them.

Great images of part your wonderful collection of Barlows

That's cool that you got that knife way back when from Ryan Daniels, Dean. I was lucky enough to run accross mine on the secondary market not all that long ago. I really think the number of different combos and varieties that they did on the 25's back in 08-09 was cool. I think GEC should stick to that formula, rather than running higher numbers on fewer combos, like they seem to be doing more of lately. It kinda takes a little bit of the fun out of collecting them.

You guys sure have some nice collections, something to aspire for. Thanks for sharing, great photos.
