What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Yes, I got your email!! No mind changing!!;)

I took a stroll through my collection, and found a couple of good examples of possible permanganate Greenbone (also known as Antique Amber)

A 1950s Case, and a Maher & Grosh from some time before that. (I suspect the M&G was an Empire product well before 1930)
The Case is virtually unused, but the M&G has some miles on it! (Thanks again, Duncan!)

I found an Ulster that is distinctly green in shade. I never even would have looked had it not been for this thread.

Oh, very nice. Thanks, Charlie. (Sounds like thanks go to Duncan, as well!)

What was the first word on the Maher & Grosh's blade, preceding " - Fish - Game" ?

In for saddle brown. Almost missed the boat on this one. Feels very sub rosa sometimes, this SFO knife acquisition thing we do.

Im trying to remain disciplined. Im getting 4. Im not getting all the color combos but god help me I may need more!!!

I'm in for two so far. An ebony single blade and an ebony double bladed. I missed out on the ebonies last round, and ebony wood is my favorite type of cover for pocket knives. The dark gabon ebony used for this run looks great! I might have to pick up an antique Amber (greenish) bone as well. The barlow SFO runs are addicting for sure. I haven't felt as drawn to any other GECs as I have towards these barlows.

Etch word:
I have wondered that too. I dabbed it with a touch of vinegar (I do NOT recommend this!), and it gave me a pretty good hint that it says FUR - FISH - GAME !! It darkened enough of the F to confirm what it says (said).

I've been carrying this for the last few days in anticipation of a single blade ebony clip :)

Camillus did a good job on those Barlows, Jim.
Nice one to use to get your pocket in shape!!;)

They made a matching "Daddy" Barlow also.

Here's a pic of one - the top knife of course.

Ah, okay. Thanks! I tried to think of an -R word that fit with the other two, and came up blank.

Very nice, Jim!

I'm on the same wavelength-- I've been keeping this one extra-close again for days now, also in Anticipation®.

So it is quality AND quantity.
I'm in for a single blade antique-now that I see a picture of what it actually looks like I'm amazed by my own sense of style and taste.
cheers.

Antique Amber - hubbahubbahubba! A year of EDC with that and I'll bet it'll look like it came right out of Tom Sawyer's pocket.

I have a single blade ebony and a double blade red coming. Another pic of a spear bladed version to tide us over.

Oh Charlie, you are turning into a crack dealer just like Mike/knifeswapper! One double antique sawcut tan and one single ebony on the way.

Daddy barlow? Hmmm?

Mink that looks great.

Ah, appreciate it Sarah. I am happy with my choices then. Now the wait. :(

These new Tom's Choice Barlows pretty much saw to it that beans and tortillas will be the menu staple for weeks to come. So I might as well ask, are there rumors of a clip point Boys's knife?
