What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Haha not a fan of the nubby spey Brett? I could see someone making a wicked bowie or spear out of a spey. Personally for my first TC, this looks amazing. Green jigged bone, a nice motivational etch on the blade for every morn and a wide belly to boot :D

Armando's tasty soup had me completely miss out on the post where it showed that GEC had posted these up. Very excited

Oh, Im a fan Tim! :D I was referring to slant, or angle, in the jigging. :)

Those are nice looking, but I wonder what happened....they were supposed to use the pick bone jigging? Gotta say I'm disappointed.
I'm relieved, Relee1. I actually prefer this jigging to the pick bone. But I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the pick bone, or something else, pop up on some TC Barlows at the Rendezvous.

Charlie, these really surpass all expectations! After the original run of Days Work Barlows, I didn't think the spey bladed Barlow could be improved. But you did it! This is super. Congratulations!

I am happy about the way the blade turned out. Slightly "spatulate", it should lend itself to nice, acute edge angles.

Charlie, you keep outdoing yourself. I love this new offering. Everything about it is different and exciting, from the coloring to the jigging to the blade offering.
Thank you for everything you do Charlie. :D

Very nice Charlie, been busy so I apologize if this was discussed earlier...are there two blade versions of these as well?

I'm really looking forward to this one, Charlie! That blade shape and the new logo are "the cat's pajamas." Thanks for your vision.

I know that the next couple pages will be filled with the beautiful new run of TC Barlows, so I wanted to squeeze in momentarily and show you guys what just came in the mail. I won Mike Latham's Soup Bone Barlow GAW (MANY, MANY THANKS TO MIKE AND COLLECTORKNIVES!), and here it is…
...
Congrats, Armando, on winning that excellent soup bone in Mike's generous GAW!!:cool: Thanks for showing us your collection of Charlows; I really like the blade variety you've pulled together.:) Mike, thanks for running your GAW, and I hope the reviews that were written serve you and your customers well! ;) Any idea how many reviews were posted to your site as a result of the GAW?

I'm always trying to add interesting traditional Barlow's with bolster stamps that I don't have. Found this Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co OVB Grand Dad Barlow on line last weekend. This is my first Grand Dad Barlow so you can imagine my surprise when I opened the box, this thing is a monster, 5" closed, 9" open, one substantial knife and one of the coolest bolster stamps.
...
Congrats on another very fine addition, Augie!! That HSB is BIG and beautiful!:thumbup: Happy Grand Dad's Day! :p

How about some eye candy while we're waiting.

Esynx made from GEC blades/springs:

The etch's look uneven but its just the camera angle. NS bolster w/ brass frame; covers made from Rosewood salvaged from the old Cattauragus Factory.

The stag is awesome on this knife, very well matched thin slabs with hand set pins. It has the smoothest action of any 15 pattern I have ever held! :) Nice work Evan!

Those are really nice looking, Barry! Evan is sure making a name for himself with that his excellent work.

Thanks guys for all the congrats on this page and the last. I really do feel lucky to have it as it's, not only beautiful, but different than what I already have. It's only a matter of time before it develops a nice patina. I'm not very good at not playing with my knives.

The only safe queens I own are some matching Charlows that I'm saving for my kids.

Aha ah kk gotcha Brett. That would look quite nice actually to throw up the lines just a bit. I'm a fan too :D

Playing with knives ends up in a thumb shaped patina near the nail nick if you pinch your knives open if you're not careful, your very own 'identifying mark' as well.
