What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I know that the next couple pages will be filled with the beautiful new run of TC Barlows, so I wanted to squeeze in momentarily and show you guys what just came in the mail. I won Mike Latham's Soup Bone Barlow GAW (MANY, MANY THANKS TO MIKE AND COLLECTORKNIVES!), and here it is...

I could not have said it better than, Perry!! One of the best looking examples out there!! Congrats and tip of the hat to Mike Latham at Collectorknives.net!

Thanks guys. I was always more of a 2-blade Charlow type of guy, but I made the exception for this beauty. I love the extra soupiness :D

Armando, very nice soup bone TC! If yours is a River soup bone mine is a puddle or pond soup bone. Each one is unique and no two are a like that makes them special in my mind and are surely to be prized and admired.
Best, Lloyd

+1  I really like that style! Would love see one of the future TCs clip long pullls in antique bone with that style, with maybe just a slight more slant to it. ;):D

Haha not a fan of the nubby spey Brett? I could see someone making a wicked bowie or spear out of a spey. Personally for my first TC, this looks amazing. Green jigged bone, a nice motivational etch on the blade for every morn and a wide belly to boot :D

Armando's tasty soup had me completely miss out on the post where it showed that GEC had posted these up. Very excited

Just catching up with this thread, lot of nice Barlow's this week, Harry, great old ones. Dadpool, love the KaBarLow, another one I will have to keep my eye out for. Armando, that is a beauty, really nice soup bone. Jonny D, love the Northfield's, I have a couple and that is my preferred size.

I'm always trying to add interesting traditional Barlow's with bolster stamps that I don't have. Found this Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co OVB Grand Dad Barlow on line last weekend. This is my first Grand Dad Barlow so you can imagine my surprise when I opened the box, this thing is a monster, 5" closed, 9" open, one substantial knife and one of the coolest bolster stamps.
I have on idea of the age, could be pretty old, or who made them for Hibbard Spencer Bartlett. The Chicago Hardware Company looks to have been in business from 1882 to 1962.
Sure would like to see GEC offer a Grand Dad Barlow, I bet that would be something. What do you think Charlie?:D
