What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Nice to hear you are coming, Rob! I'd love to see your creation in person!
Are you actually picking Mark up?
Now if you two come, you gotta behave!!:D

Thanks Charlie. I am really looking forward to it. I would pick Mark up by going 207 miles out of my way, but, it might be like having a Raccoon in the car with you. I might arrive in Titusville with an empty cabinet. ;):D

Charlie, he won't pick me up because he has to drive a couple minutes out of his way.:rolleyes: I guess I will have to drive myself if I am going to get there.

A few minutes !!!:eek::eek: Four hundred and 14 miles out of my way to get you, you rascal. Round trip of course. :p

Bring that NYKC display, if you can drive that far, being an old man and all.

Charlie, no flop there, more likely an outside the park home run. Can't get much better than that for us old Barlow lovers.
Only added one old one this week, a 1920 to 1940 Case Tested XX Grand Daddy Barlow, showing some pitting from age but tight, close to full blade, crack free handles and scary sharp. I'm still finding bone to be my preferred handle material for a Barlow.

Hope you can make it Mark! Having you and Rob in the same building would be very interesting!!:D

Nice old Case, Augie!

I’m crowing and cock-a-hoop over a parcel I received from the good Mr C this afternoon, containing a brace of freshly-laid Barlow goodness in African Blackwood and Evergreen Pick Bone! :) Astonishingly beautiful Charlie. Many thanks my friend, you’re a total star :)

Hopefully, I can get them out in the open air and let them have a run around soon :)

Nice old Case, Augie!

Sure would Charlie! I will do my best to make it. It is a moral imperative that I torment Rob with my presence. :D

Augie Nice Case Tested XX!

Jack Two beauties you have there!

Glad they got there, Jack! I was starting to worry a little . . . . . . . .
You are welcome!!

Nice three bagger, bozack!

Charlie - The Ancient's are terrific  I certainly hope to acquire one sometime soon :D

Augie - Thats a nice Case Tested XX!:)

Jack - That is two beauties you have there!

bozack - Nice trio you got there

Jack - GREAT to see my friend...you have yours long before I will see mine, I could only manage to get hold of one - The Copper Bone so I am looking forward greatly to see that, I just dont seem to be able to time things, I hear that the knives are coming out, and think Wow!!...but come time to ordering there gone
We should call them Lightening Barlows :D

The jigging on the Bone is a real coup - its funny how something like that effects me - its exciting stuff to have this come back into a modern/Traditional knife - we are Lucky for all the reasons that are often spoken about in here.

Augie my friend, Oh man I love it when you post, it seems like you are able to find these knives with ease, but I do know just how long one has to sit in front of a computer for - tell me about it, its a problem for me - to be honest the struggle of getting knives to NZ and the costs that are continually hitting you are making me think is it worth paying double for that knife?
But..... something keeps making me push those keyboard buttons :o

Charlie your Stamping is a great one, this is one of those time when I sit back and imagine people like me - finding a knife in the future and posting it on a Knife forum - if they exist so much then - I hope they do ....and a photo comes up of a battered old Barlow with scales of beautiful jigging and the stamp of what looks like a c backwards on the left with a funny mark in the middle followed by another c ......

Edit, just saw your photo of the three legs Jack -Very cool - good research, the two C's are very familiar on the early Joseph Elliot Sheffield knife stamps as well, I think the CC thing on Charlies Stamp along with the family design is just perfect.

Thank you Charlie, Mark, Ron and Duncan.
Duncan, you are so right, takes a lot of looking but I really enjoy it when I find one I can get excited about and this Case is one of those.

Another fantastic find Augie

Jack - That is two beauties you have there!

Thanks Ron :)

Good link Jolipapa, Tyzack has been a huge name in Sheffield industry, and still widely seen in the town. I grew up just down the road from Dobbin Hill, where Joseph Tyzack (a rather unpleasant character) was born. He was the long-standing owner of the Scythe Works at Abbeydale, which is now an industrial museum and world heritage site (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1105366-A-Visit-To-Abbeydale-Industrial-Hamlet). The 'Rapper' link is also an interesting one, long-standing members may recall my encounter with the rapper ladies on the Wizard's Quest! - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...kshire-With-A-Knife-The-Wizard’s-Quest-Part-7 :D

Researching The Three Legs didn't take too long my friend, it's a pub I give a wide berth everytime I go into the centre of town! :D

Man those scratted bone barlows are just begging for a nice patina.

This may knock the marrow bone clip barlow off as my favorite.
