I'm still marveling at what you and GEC have accomplished with this run, Charlie.

The scratted bone Ancient is a picture hog, and understandably so...

... and my harlequin ebony will keep me entertained for hours. :D

However, in many ways the smooth parchment bone may be the most perfect cover of all for this exquisitely modest pattern, in its unobtrusive, elegant simplicity:

(Beautiful saturation in the bone....)

Congratulations again, Charlie, for this most recent outcome of many often-difficult design decisions (including: what not to include within a given pattern or run, with so many options possible).

It's an honor to bear knives bearing your mark.

Very well said, P!

Ron, I just used a can of brake cleaner to blast off all that drool. Easy-peasy! :D

You make a grizzly old guy blush , Sarah!
Good thing I have a beard!:p

It is so gratifying to have you all appreciate these knives!
It also makes me feel challenged!

What Next???
;)

Sarah,
I can see why You have 3 with different scales. It would be impossible to pick a favorite. :)

GREAT PHOTOS !

I believe no, this was a completely new and special project with the scale left on the blade and bolsters for Charlie himself to emulate and mirror the barlows of past. Could get it rebladed by a modder though I imagine~
May just hold my breath and hope they use it again.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys.

Very nice collection, Sarah. I love the character in that Ebony handle. Well chosen!

I'd been looking forward to the scratted bone since its first mention, with its reveal being the clincher.

(Hint: whenever Charlie posts group shots of knives highlighting a particular feature, it's a clue-- no matter how nonchalantly he may ask, "What do you think of these?").

Smooth bone is one of my favorite cover materials of all, and the parchment bone on these Ancients is particularly fine.

Ebony is another default favorite, but I was prepared to pass on it this time-- until Charlie and I were pawing through the Ancient "seconds" (in quotation marks on purpose) and this ebony came into the light.

It instantly chose me. :D

Where'd you get that cool box? :)

Ah, a Rendezvous coups (which of course will be added to those Rendezvous thread posts I'm still intending to write :o).

In 2011, GEC produced a collector's set including an elk-handled Conductor, wooden box, and leather knife sleeve. I've visited this set every year at the Rendezvous, hankering hard after the box but not liking the knife itself well enough to pay for the full-price set.

When I arrived at the Rendezvous this year, I asked again about the box(es) [it's one of my Traditions], and was delighted to learn that at some point in the past year GEC finally broke up the unselling set; the knives were sold on their own, leaving boxes now available as stand-alones-- if yet unpriced. In light of my Pursuit, Mr. Howard finally fixed a price, and I became an even happier Rendezvous camper.

Two pieces of solid wood with a machined insert, the GEC logo,* and simple (non-sprung) hardware-- perfect!

Speaking of barlows ;), I also came home with this sweet old barlow, courtesy of Parke1 and his signature sudden strike, hit-and-run generosity:

Thanks for the explanation about, and further pics of, the GEC box P, it's a really cool piece

No more squirrels?! :(

Hope they're not really going to with the 'Eye of the Tiger' claw slash logo! :D ;)

Rats !!! I saw these at the Rendezvous and meant to grab one. :o:o A really nice box and the old Schrade is fantastic Sarah.:thumbup::)

I like them little squirrels. ;):D

Thank you guys for the comments on my Soup. It appears that Dan's mark side soup was very similar to mine. Fantastic stuff lately.:D

I posted this during or right after the ancients started to arrive, and I think it got lost. Quoting to re ask the question.

Alright Barlow Experts! I'm on a quest.

My initials are SD, I have a son who is SD, and another who is MD, which is also my wife's initials. I have a S stamped Schrade barlow, but I'm looking to find out of there are any brands I can be on the look out for which may have M or D stamps. I already have an alert set for Dasco knives (Charlie's D stamped barlow). Just looking to see if there are any other I should keep an eye out for. I'd like to have one for each son. An S and an M would be great (I am aware of Schatt and Morgan's S&M stamped barlows, but I'm afraid of the queen QC based on the many things I've read).

So... are there any old barlow manufacturers or contractors who would have stamped a D or an M into their bolster?

Obligatory Barlow picture so you'll stop and read the post :p

I can't think of a another D or M stamped Barlow. There is an MB stamped bolster that Miller Brothers had.

How about a harness Barlow?

Seriously, I'd love to see another run of the long pull spear. Kinda slim pickens out there for us neophytes to get one in the secondary market.
