What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

No etch on this one; the stamped blade will have to suffice! There's always next time.

Hey snakewood!!!! Slither on over here!!

Thanks Barry!! I don't have a snakewood knife. I also don't have a 25. How could I pass it up!!

If you want to look at it like the English wY competitive Stamping for example I*XL ( I excell ) etc, UTK said out loud is Utica. But Im kind going Rusy's way with the trade mark.

Just guessing here but could it be perhaps have a prior name or other name of something like Utica Tool & Knife company?

Picked up another Case Appaloosa bone today, Case used to make some really pretty Barlow's, the Appaloosa bone has such depth and character to it. Really wish GEC would start using it.

Augie, you never stop impressing me my friend - fantastic!!

Heres a thought out loud...When you study Case Red Bone - I wonder if they dyed the Appaloosa because it does have similar characteristics in patterning through the translucent Red Dye.

Thanks everyone, Duncan, you may be on to something there. On some of my red bones you can almost see some Appaloosa to it. Just different dye processes maybe? May also have something to do with years of production, the red razor is close to the same vintage as the Appaloosas.

Phhooooarrr!!! Barry Thats a honey RIGHT THERE!!! Whew..... I just love looking at Red Bone - and Augie matey, I just NEVER tire from looking at your beautiful knives, some of my Red Bones also have that Appaloosa texture beneath.

Barry, those are some stunners, sure wish Case would build knives like that again.

Augie and Barry - fine appaloosas!
I wish I was at my desk so I could post an Appaloosa Soup for comparison - anybody?
I had a couple of Case, but got sweet-talked out of them. A fellow bought them for his daughters, who ride Appaloosas; a compelling case for them to enjoy them!

Now WHY didn't I think of that?????
As you know Charlie I raise Appy's I can see right now I'm going to have to step up my game around here!!;);):D

Thanks Gev!! I love curved stamps - they speak of age and care for details!!

The UTK is a phonetic for Utica in my opinion, as has been mentioned before by Duncan etc.

I suspect the trademark followed shortly after, or coincided. I am pretty sure UTK preceded the name Kutmaster.

Great knife, and with a story to tell!!

The same explanation I have been told Charlie,it is a phonetic transcription:

U (you) T (tee) K (keh, short k sound) I also expect long before Kutmaster. It is one of their earlier stamps, early ones having this stamp also :

Notice the small NY incorporated in the stamp. Utica,NY
