What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I'm for sure going to have to get my first Barlow, can you guys point me in the right direction of a good solid working single blade? Thanks a ton. :)

For current production I would look at the Queen Barlows, several single blade options from their Workhorse no frills Barlow to Barlows with nicer handle material. I do like the GECs but most GEC Barlows are SFOs and very hard to get ahold of.
I bought one of the 2015 Queens in a 2 blade version and it is a very nice Barlow.

Nice line ups Wundergussy and Jordanlh

Here is an IXL Barlow I managed to get few weeks ago. The main problem is its shiny blades, though I can't decide if they are buffed and then it is a real problem, or just good condition (less likely but the stamps are deep and the blades are full), the minor problem is that the main blade was broken and modified to an odd drop point shape, which I modified to a spey (I prefer it this way). Anyway the springs are strong, iron bolsters and pins, nice sawed bone and heavy look and fee

Mike, missed your pictures earlier, nice I*XL, in my opinion one of the more collectable vintage Barlows out there. Wostenholm used some nice handle materials and built a quality knife.

Hey Thanks Mike really nice Trad Barlow that takes us back in the direction of the OP from waynorth "What makes a good traditional Barlow?" The TC Barlows are nice but having seen lots and lots and lots (did I mention LOTS!) of Glittering - never to be used TC Barlows I'm keen to see more like yours and the wonderful Barlows Charlie posted to kick the thread off.

Derek

Derek, Nice Schrades, I agree with you, what I love most about this thread that Charlie started is the wide variety of vintage Barlows that have been pictured and discussed here. Many member have contributed wonderful pictures and historical background on the Barlow pattern. While I certainly enjoy a new TC I really like when someone posts quality pics of vintage knives.

Thanks for the advice.

Boyhood dreams: The Lone Ranger, Cheerios for breakfast and a Tip Top Barlow for Christmas!

Nice Tip Top Dean, love that full spear blade.

Thanks Gev and Jack for the comments, those old Sheffield Barlows are some of my favorites.
