What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Lord have mercy:eek:

Sometimes a good Barlow is an inexpensive Barlow. :D

I love these little RRs; Small but not too small, really disappears in your pocket (the Peanut of the Barlow world?). Great little knives for the price.

No problem Rob I was just curios how the two would look side by side. I for some reason thought you had one:confused:Thanks anyway, Lloyd

I have loved both guitars and knives all my life; what a wonderful confluence, in this particular piece.

Thank you to Charlie, and everyone at GEC.

Here are some pictures of Sarah's fine Brazillian Rosewood for comparison. The Brazilian is quite a bit more fancy, but, both are pretty to my eye. :)

Thanks Primble very nice! Yes, both are beautiful--can't go wrong either way for sure. Lloyd

Absolutely! I love the variations seen between types of wood, and between knives clad in the 'same' material (each piece unique).

Note to the Imagineers at GEC: I'm wondering how Jobillo might look on a TC, once upon one of these times...? ;)

The classic Barlow has become my hands-down favorite and has completely dominated my RFP for nearly a year now.

Nice to see that knife open Primble Sir - a great old knife!

Ron, I love the Walnut ( I call it Gunstock Walnut ) - fantastic knives, Sarah - Like you I personally love that Brazilian wood - they turned out stunning!

Very nice knife, Primble. As always a great image!
Fayetteville is about 10 miles east of where I live. I'm not sure I knew there was ever a cutlery manufacturer there. Not a surprise though since we had many in New York State. Sadly most are gone, as we all know.

Thank you Gary. This tariff commission document shows them in business in 1882 and most likely established before that year. According to Goins, the factory burned down in 1911 and was never rebuilt. I have dug up a little more history on the company and will post it later.

Nice FKC Barlow Rob and beautifully photographed! I like that Bolster stamp. I bet there aren't many of those Barlows left around. I saw that for sale and must say you got if for a GREAT price. Glad you were able to add it your collection. It will look wonderful displayed with your other vintage knives. Thanks for sharing and any more history on this Barlow and the Fayettville Knife Co will be interesting to know. Lloyd

Wonderful pickings, Rob!!;)
Thanks for posting that F'Ville Barlow AND the background info!
That's the kind of posting that makes the traditional world go 'round!!!
Hats off to you sir!!

Sorry for bringing back these old posts, but I'm way behind and just wanted to say that these are wonderful. Awesome pictures!

I agree :) The tan sawcuts are my favourite out of any TC I've ever seen.

And that yellow 2 blade Gus has just 'pops!'
