What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

:thumbup:

Turnabout is fair play, Mr. Primble. :cool:

:eek::confused::confused:

You ole Buzzard !!! :grumpy::D:D:D

Not as nicely arranged, but here are some more Barlows, including some of the requested ones - NYK, Gardiners etc.
dpowers, the "D" is a Delmar, the "S" is a Schrade, and the "D<>E" is a Diamond Edge (Shapleigh).

Very nice addendum Mr. Charlie ! :thumbup::thumbup::)

I am always looking for the world's oldest Barlow, redeagle!

I had that world's oldest Barlow and was fixing to send it to you Charlie, but, Haskew stealed it too !! :o

Wow, Lloyd!! You've been doing work! ;) :thumbup: :thumbup:

+1 !!! :D:D:thumbup:

Augie - very nice gold shield Barlow !! :thumbup::thumbup::)

My old Boker Barlow has seen a lot of pocket time and hard wear to the mark side bone, however, remains near perfect mechanically:

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it.

Rob, love the long pull spear on that Boker, the bone has aged beautifully also.

Lloyd, you have put together a very nice collection. I see many nice and hard to find Barlows in that group. I can't say I've ever seen a New Holland in bone before.

Congrats!

And here is the "wheel" with a hubcap!!:D

I love the contrast between the bright colours in the centre and all the earth tones (thanks Sarah) surrounding them. Great picture Charlie.

Incidentally, the dead skunk Barlow gets me every time :)

Awesome.

Pretty impressive wheel o Barlows as of late...very nice gentleman:cool::thumbup:

+ 5K! :thumbup::thumbup: Those Barlow wheels are very impressive (and totally fascinating - I have a day job to which I want to do justice, too, you know, but the Barlow wheels can be pretty distracting :eek:)!!:cool:

This entire thread is very impressive, and I was surprised to stumble across a somewhat related thread this morning: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/962497-How-come-newer-Barlows-are-a-bit-rare-It-s-my-favorite-pattern
It's only about 6 months older than this "Good, Traditional Barlow" thread, but the tone of the posts is that Barlows are a rather rare, elusive pattern. Seems like there has been quite a change over the past 4 years!! :eek::rolleyes::D

Augie, you have joined the world of the Barlow Wheel great ones! What's the red one at 9 o'clock?

Just wonderful Augie! :thumbup: :thumbup:I could look at these collections for hours. Well done, Lloyd

Charlie, Lloyd and John - The wheels just keep on turning and they are all niceuns indeed! :thumbup:
All I have to offer today is a spoke from one of these Barlow wheels. :eek: This ole Schrade Cut Co made it's way to my pocket this week! :D

Nice one Ron:thumbup:--it has a lot of character and I think perfectly illustrates why we love and pursue these old vintage Barlows! Besides that how does one go wrong with an old SCC folder, especially a SCC Barlow. Thanks for the picture, Lloyd

What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow? One that is handmade from a close friend, lets say a brother actually:thumbup:

Behold the Fish Barlow. Charlie your influence is obviously far reaching. Say a career launcher or to offer one that wee bit of a nudge to persue knife making. Evan and Mark fall under this umbrella I think its safe to say?

Pictures Paul, Pictures!!! Clad in pre ban Elephant Ivory (which is just stunning to me) solid blade, perfectly centered, perfect pull, steel bolsters, liners and pins. The Fish logo? Oh yeah, the Fish logo...WONDERFUL Mark:thumbup:

Wonderful Fish Barlow!
Nice design Mark. Paul you are a lucky man to be so pescatorily blessed!

Thank you Al, Lloyd and Ron, it was fun putting it together but I have to admit I think I had enough other Barlows laying around to make a second wheel. Luckily my wife likes the knife collecting also.

Picked up this spear Keen Kutter, decent condition with almost full blades, nice bone.
