What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Jack, love the old ones, great bone on that one,

Paul, very nice wheel of 25's, a collection to be proud of.

I've been meaning to put up my own wheel for ages, so here you are;

Beautiful. My daughter says it looks like a fall sunflower.

When I see a collection like this, I always wonder which is your favorite (other than all of them).

Thanks very much guys!

The 25s don't often appear here in this thread but I don't know why?

@Sabercat - that's a lovely compliment from your daughter  and as for my favourite? Well that's easy, my first:

Philistines.

All the same, it is worth noting again that "Weird Little Stubby Thing" was coined in this very thread!

From the archives:

When it was clear that new, 3.5" barlows were indeed the pipeline, puukkoman did say, and I quote:
I'm really looking forward to these, too. It's exciting to see GEC produce a REAL barlow, instead of that weird little stubby thing they've been making.
And off we went! So, Alex/puukkoman gets original credit, but I jumped on the trademark right away. To whit, also in this thread:

Of these Weird Little Stubby Things®, I'm going with the one in the middle.

That's worth a passel of pictures, I'd say. ;)

I've been after a single-blade, longpull clip point TC (in some kind of bone) for some time. Anyway, I finally landed one! Inside out sawcut, with (what I'm told is) the hollow channel in the shin bone where a nerve runs. I think it's an interesting cover.

THAT !!!!! ^^^^ mcar is one AWESOME TC, Im glad that GEC carried on with such a variance in Bone and take a gamble- because it sure paid off!

MCar I'm in total agreement with Duncan, what some companies would consider something to toss Charlie and GEC saw something completely unique:thumbup:

I love those covers!!!

Thanks, fellas. The pile side has the same hole, so it's pretty nifty. Glad I finally got a long-pull single blade. I do really like it and I'm sure I'll hold on to it for a long, long time (these things are hard to find!), but oddly enough, I actually think I prefer the clip point with a standard nail nick. I was lucky enough to score a red jigged bone Tidioute barlow in the Exchange about a year ago and it has a standard nail nick. I just love that thing.

Neat looking knife! Nerves don't run through bones. It's been a long time since I looked at the anatomy of bones and I've never looked at cow shin bones (that weren't already processed for knife handles ;) ) but it may be where a vessel supplied blood to the medullary cavity.

Very nice and unique! Had a bid on one like this once on the bay, but alas.... Just leaves me more money when my grail shows up someday.

Thank you very much for sharing!

Is this the one that sold on the 'bay with the really poor pictures? If it is, glad it turned out to be nice.

Interesting...I'll have to ask a vet or an anatomist. Thanks for the input.
