What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Thanks, guys. One of my favorite aspects to this hobby is fixing up and carrying 100+ year old knives. Every once in a while the blind squirrel finds a nut that's too rare to use, and I'm afraid this might be one. I haven't done anything to it but oiling the pivot and springs.

That is wonderful, Paul! A most generous gift from a wonderful guy.

Here's a few more pictures. It's in pretty good shape, but shows much more wear than yours. It snaps closed pretty well, though you can feel the wear at the half stop. No wobble when open.

You seem to have found the Austin honey hole:eek::D:cool::cool: Superlative!!

Thanks Lloyd, I might try to take pictures this winter but would probably have to do in groups of 10 to get any detail.

I hear you John. It would probably be quite an undertaking but it sure would be a wonderful vintage Barlow pictorial reference considering the breadth, range and depth of your outstanding collection! I remain hopeful, Lloyd

That's a beauty Jack. That one right there made the trip all worthwhile.:thumbup:

Sold personally by Charlie, an offer I definitely could not refuse. Lyle was there, he probably saw that I could not take out my wallet fast enough.

Fantastic pickup Jack! Glad to see you got to go to the rendezvous as well :)

Here's a well loved user I'm currently cleaning up. Some real nice slight 'ragg' to one part of the sawcut as well

Haha nah I mis worded that. I meant I'm glad to see you got to go to the Rendezvous in the end. I remember seeing that you said you might not be able to make it.
I'll do my best to make it next year, then we can be the only two asians at Titusville ;)

Jack, thanks for posting the additional Barlow information and that I*XL has some wonderful old bone on it.

Scott, nice picture of the Diamond Edge, wonderful bone on that one also.

A pleasure my friend, Cambertree says he has come up with some additional information, so I'm hoping the discussion can continue here :)

+1 on that Diamond Edge

r8shell, congratulations!... Empire Barlows are hard to find.

Your knife has a different tang stamp than mine or Paul's. I suspect it's an earlier version stamp. Charlie C. will know more.
