What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Ebony makes a good, traditional Barlow.

Nice video Jeff. Like you, I was able to get one of each but only plan to keep one. The first one I received was the ebony, and I thought it was perfect. Then I received the cranberry, and it was even better! You cannot fault the ebony, but the richness of the red cannot be equaled. It, along with my charred oak beer scout, will be with me forever.

While I'm in the Ancient frame of mind here is my family portrait! :D I'm proud to own these but what makes them extra special to me is the fact that I got them from the man himself! Thanks Charlie! :)

Beautiful line up. I have just scratted parchment version.

Anybody notice what appears to be a bit of ink between the swedge and the pull on the most recent run of TC's? Not a big deal, ... just a curiosity.

Travman that knife is just killer. Your pictures do a great job of showing off everything cool about it too.

My cranberry arrived yesterday. You know those moments when you open a tube and your first reaction is 'OMG I love this knife....' and you just stare at it for a moment feeling lucky? Yeah that happened. Love everything about this TC, I want to carry and use it but the rams head etch is so neat I do not want to obstruct it. I know carry it will win out in the end though lol Here it is with my other sheepfoot TC.

Great pics everyone!
Nice video, Jeff - thanks for the compliments!!

FYI, my first SFO was at Queen; Harness Jack number one!! It took a while to sell out!!
But the subsequent ones were well received, and those first HJs are unobtanium!!
And the first Barlow, the long pull Spear, sold out mighty quick!!

In order of appearance (roughly), the Barlows were made in Spear, Clip, Sheepfoot, Spey and Stew's (one-armed-man) configuration, and also an Ancient blade; six in all, not counting pen blades.

I am so grateful that lots of people share my enthusiasm for the Barlow. Old Boiley is in my pocket as I type this!!

Yes! Both of mine. I just lightly hit the spot with super eraser and presto.

I had this on mine also! I thought it would rub right off, so I swiped mine on a sunshine cloth a couple times. Seems to have mostly done the trick. Looked almost like the etch was uneven a bit. I don't mind, it's a great knife. I really look forward to seeing the difference between my two sheepfoot TCs in 5, 10, etc., etc. years of use vs non use.
