What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Gifted this one to friend when they were released. Stopped by to see him last evening it was sitting on his counter and I had to snap a picture of such a well used and loved TC.

He told me of all the knives he’s ever owned this one was by far his favorite and he would never stop carrying and using it-
