What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Oh lord. Those look absolutely amazing! A beautiful muscadine wine color! Love it!

Anticipation is killing me.
I scored big time on the last run but those were sheepsfoot barlows. I hope I can get anywhere near as lucky as I was last time.

Spears are near and dear to me so you can count me 100% in on the hype train.

Never imagined I'd have a hand in naming one of the most iconic knives of the traditional knife renaissance... Amazing!

I really want one now! 1000% approve of the name. Makes me want some North Carolina muscadine cider!!!!!!

I graduate high school tomorrow and it would be an absolute treat to be able to order one of these!!!!!! Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks for the name, Jak3 Jak3 ! I hope you don't mind!!??o_O
Muscadine is such a cool name, and when I googled it, I loved reading about the variations in the Muscadine Grapes, and the wines produced! The bone color looks like an oxidized homemade wine (some of which I have made:rolleyes:). I can taste it!! Reminds me of some barrels in my Nonno's cellar!!
I can't find that wine up here on the west coast. I'll have to look for it when I am back east for the Rendezvous!!
Jeff, Bill keeps his dye processes close to his vest!!

My buddy will be receiving his first TC out of this run....he owns a local winery. I gave him his first GEC made knife. A #71 bull nose, he was hooked! He is super excited about this knife and it's name. He gave me a quick run down on muscadine and it's history. His plan and mine is to carry and use our antiques.

This Trinacria, which is the symbol on the Sicilian flag, has a little story behind it. I used it for the last Ancient's button also. The two "C"s on it are not part of the Sicilian symbol, but are my initials. This year I colored them BLUE in honor of a cousin in Sicily. He is a second cousin, and his whole immediate family are Brown-eyed except for him - his eyes are BLUE !!
We are close in age, and he speaks no English. Our Grandfathers were brothers, so I think that makes us second cousins. My eyes are also Blue, and when we met, he couldn't stop grinning at me and pointing at my eyes! His wife just rolled her eyes and looked heavenward every time he grinned at her!
Apparently he got a lot of (good-natured) grief (foundling, extra-terrestrial) being the only one with such eyes, so it was a great relief in his 60 some years of life to finally find a close, blue-eyed relative!!

Cool tale, Taylor!! Has your friend ever made Muscadine wine??
No, he hasn't...but when we were in college we used to make some "juice wines" LOL. In California we are in a Mediterranean zone, so they make a lot of red's. Also some really great white wines. I'm not a big wine guy...but the winery is pretty well known in the region. It all taste the same to me. (beer drinker)

He indeed told me that muscadine is the oldest grape Vines on the Americas and they have been producing wines with it as early as the 16th century!

Edit: my friends winery during the fall

I love this story because my Mom is Italian, first generation born in this country. Her mother was from Sicily and her father was from Bari, southern Italy on the Adriatic coast. Mom has brown eyes, and three of her brothers had brown eyes, but her oldest brother, he has blue eyes. Apparently, as a baby, he even had red hair!

Speaking of eye color, one of mom's favorite stories to tell is when I was a baby and mom noticed that my eyes were changing color from baby blue to something else. Before he could think twice, Dad blurted out, "I hope they're not turning brown." Even after 40+ years, Mom hasn't let him forget that and still brings it up every now and then, you know, just to put dad in his place and keep him humble. :D:D

Thank you for sharing some of the background and history of your Ancient barlows. :)

And apologies for this bit of personal story time and off topicness. In an attempt to be on topic, I've been carrying my Roundhead with ram's horn scales this week.
