What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Just paid for my TC can't wait for this old friend to show up at my door step...gonna be a long wait though I'm on vacation for the next week starting on Thursday

Charlie, I just noticed the model/pattern number is 15_118 for the new Ancient; do they not have a number to represent your slender spear? Maybe they should put a C there, for a Charlie Spear! #15C118 . . . I like it.

i believe they did that for the Ancient

1st post here on the forum so this may not be the place to ask this question. I'm new to GEC this year and I have been trying to get a hold of on of the TC Barlows. Checking the dealers websites often but they seem to be not available, are they all sold? Is there something I am missing?

The TC Barlows are among the most popular GEC patterns. They sell out quickly. To get one without paying scalpers prices on the secondary market takes a lot of effort and persistence.

Welcome first and foremost!
However selling or discussing the selling or ordering of knives is not permitted here.

Welcome to the Porch (Traditional Folders AFB) Jiki
When I first came here I thought I would never have a TC but as black mamba has aptly stated, patience and persistence will pay off as it finally did for me. Let the journey begin.

Has someone got a New Ancient, who can show me the tang stamp??
Is the blade represented by an underscore?????

mrknife mrknife is correct. They called the Ancient blade the "C" blade. Did they really leave the New Ancient blank (or underscored)????
Like I said before, I have yet to hold one in my hands!!

indeed, even the 15s in general, id like to say they are almost one of GEC's bread and butter productions as it sells out so fast generally

I paid for my new ancient yesterday too. I’m excited to have one. Definitely a special Barlow.

The mark side of the tang is normal with "Tidioute Cutlery" and "Made in USA", but the reverse is stamped "GEC CAR" on one line, and 15 118 on the second line; there is no character representing the blade at all. There is a lot of 'scale' on the bolster and the pivot pin is proud, the transition from cover to bolster is rather abrupt, and while the cover rivets are normal, the nails (the pins holding the knife together) are hand pinned, or at least look that way. The blade has a lot of patina right out-of-the-box, and the pull is about in the middle of the strength range. Frame and pins are all mild steel, and the covers are saw-cut bone that look much like barlows of old.

Fantastic presentation Charlie!
