What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

waynorth waynorth

If you don't mind me asking, you've said multiple times and I'm paraphrasing, about the 2018 ancient barlow, that you hoped that almost everyone who wanted one would be able to buy one on this run and that you asked them to only do the one variant so more could get to distributors and thus into customers hands. I'm sorry but I'm confused by this. What about this run of TC knives makes them different from the others logistically?

By making only one variation, I have reached as many people as I can, @Signalprick !! This is given the fact that I can only get 500 knives!! A lot of people have been practicing getting in line for one, for years!!!
I can't guarantee one for everybody, I think that is clear!!!
I've said this before; instant gratification is just not on, if you are a knife collector. I have looked for over ten years for certain knives!!

Thanks for posting pictures everybody!! It is very gratifying to see how much everyone likes these. I was slightly worried that Bill and I had pushed the limits of Ancientness too far!!!
Looks like I didn't need to fret!!:D
I am hoping my shipment lands by Monday!! You guys are having all the fun!!

I really like this new old Barlow...looks ancient! :p:rolleyes::D

Thanks Charlie I was hoping to know more about the pins as well. I'm sure this is a silly question but I'm going to ask it anyways. Why are 2 of the pins done in one style and the remaining 2 in another? Every photo I've seen of this latest run of TCs are like this. I don't really mind im really just curious if anyone else is thinking the same thing.Regardless these knives look wicket Cool to me. Another fine addition to the TC line Charlie. Congrats.

I used mine to sharpen some dowel rods and cut twine to wrap them to put in our garden for the green beans to climb

I also used it to slice tomatoes, peppers, and avocadoes for a salad but I was in a hurry and didn't get a picture.

I'm not trying to answer in place of Charlie, I'm interested to hear all he'll tell about the production of these, but the two domed pins are the ones that hold the covers on and the hammered ones are the spring pins.

Well I was hungover this morning and forgot my phone to take my phone to work with me, and missed the opportunities today. I guess it was not meant to be this time, it will just make it more special once I do get one.

I've enjoyed reading through the past half dozen pages of this thread :) Love the look of the New Ancients! Well done Charlie :)

This Trinacria, which is the symbol on the Sicilian flag, has a little story behind it. I used it for the last Ancient's button also. The two "C"s on it are not part of the Sicilian symbol, but are my initials. This year I colored them BLUE in honor of a cousin in Sicily. He is a second cousin, and his whole immediate family are Brown-eyed except for him - his eyes are BLUE !!
We are close in age, and he speaks no English. Our Grandfathers were brothers, so I think that makes us second cousins. My eyes are also Blue, and when we met, he couldn't stop grinning at me and pointing at my eyes! His wife just rolled her eyes and looked heavenward every time he grinned at her!
Apparently he got a lot of (good-natured) grief (foundling, extra-terrestrial) being the only one with such eyes, so it was a great relief in his 60 some years of life to finally find a close, blue-eyed relative!!

What a great story :)

I was with @ADEE in Huddersfield, and spotted this Sicilian restaurant from the top-deck of the double-decker bus we were on. I said 'I must get a pic for Charlie!', but it was a struggle to get my camera out in time. Have to make a return visit :)

Hi All. I've been meaning for some time to post pictures of my father's barlow given him in 1958 by his father. It's seen a whole lot of use and is still going strong. MJ.
