What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

The Walnut TC’s are all special. The wood that was used coming from a rifle stock that Charlie’s father had from the 1950’s. It had to go through a stabilization process before Bill and the cutlers at Great Eastern Cutlery could turn them into these beautiful Barlow’s. I’m fortunate to have two of these beauties. I have a single Clip and this Sheepfoot and Pen double. I got this knife from Primble. That makes this one even more special to me. This is Primble’s photo. I have never been able to take one that was as good! :) Oh yeah! At this time two weeks from now I’ll be waiting for them to unlock those doors!! ;) :D

That is pretty cool that it came from a rifle stock. Re-purposing something of nostalgia just gives an opportunity to increase the history made with it.

Nice Walnut, Ron!! I'll be somewhere near you in the GEC lineup!!
I miss Primble and his great photographs - especially of Barlows!!!!
:)
Thanks Charlie! :) I can’t wait to see everyone and also all the eye candy that Bill and the gang will have for us! I really miss Primble too! He was absolutely a great photographer and he did love his Barlow’s. I’ve got this Walnut Sheepfoot Pen and it’s twin in African Blackwood from the same run. I got them both from Primble! I tried to quote @Primble and I’m afraid his membership has expired!

Charlie’s creations are definitely tomorrow’s classics! He puts his heart and soul into each one! Of course he has Bill Howard and the great folks at Great Eastern Cutlery that help him achieve his goals! :)

Beautiful, Ron! I was lucky enough to be gifted, a few years back, a walnut single clip from our own Philllll! It’s one of my treasured TCs!

IMG_9633.JPG This was my first TC and it remains my favourite EDC. I've said it before, but the fit and finish and snap is second to none. A beautiful knife to carry and use. Thank you Charlie for designing it and for devoting your father's gunstock to the task. I really miss Primble's contributions too. Best to all. MJ.

Having been fortunate to receive 1 of 42 Walnut TCs as my first of Charlie's beautiful Barlows, it is a highly prized piece in my collection. Mine has tiny flecks that are barely visible in this photo but shine bright like polished gold in the sun. Has anyone else noticed this characteristic? BTW, it was a Primble photo on Google that lead me to Blade Forums.

It was probably a Primble photo posted by Primble. He posted some excellent photos. I hope he's well.

Your probably right Gary. I think I was searching for a Case knife and it showed some photos of which one was by Primble. I clicked on the photo which took me to the thread on BladeForums. The rest is history! :) I need to see if I can get in touch with him to see how he's doing. Have a good weekend!

Thanks Ron! Primble's photos were always excellent to view and apparently also effective as a silent ambassador for Blade Forum. I hope you are able to contact him.

Thanks Gary, that's what I meant to say. Primble's photos were often use by search engines, they were so good. I too hope he is well.

Ha! If it weren't for Bill and GEC, I'd probably be raising Cockatoos or Airedales instead of collecting and producing knives!!
Thanks for the nice words, Ron!!

Nice parade of walnuts, guys!!!
