So, what makes a HOG?. . . Are you a HOG???. . . .

I pretty much figure that if you own a Busse Combat or Busse Custom blade then you pretty much have HOG blood coursing through your veins!!!!

In order to get the official nod, just email Amy a pic of you holding your Busse blade to amy@bussecombat.com and she will make sure that you get hooked up with the special HOG Only pricing. . . . If this will be your first Busse, then you'll qualify for the next Special HOG Offer, but sadly, not this one.

We will have an official Online induction in the future for those who can't make it to BLADE 2011 or any of the other shows that I get drunk at. . . .

Lots of room in the HOGpen my friends and plenty of room at the trough. . . So, jump in. . . the mud is warm!!!!!

As for the HOG MUK Special pricing. . . THERE IS NO LIMIT ON HOW MANY YOU CAN BUY AT THIS SPECIAL PRICE!!!!. . . but there is a limit on how long you can order one!!!!

Let's Drink!!!

Jerry :D

.

Just another example of the Busse family extending some major love !!!!:thumbup:

Bossman you are a generous & gracious man, and we thank you :D:D

That's pretty generous Boss

But now there's going to be a flood of e-mails before the ganza too

To be a HOG would be a great privilege which I would take seriously.
I can't attend shows etc. in the US but I help my mates here a lot.
Thanks Jerry - if you are ever in Sydney I'll buy you a Bourbon.....

.

Gee, where do I start.

In the early days, it meant something to be an inducted "HOG". It seemed to be given because you were a "giver", over time, you were one that contributed to the good of the whole. A HOG was looked up to as a knowledgeable old soul that had been around and respected as one of those to be the basis of the Busse attraction. The HOGs were an elite group of recognized Busse family and collectors that had contributed to the good of others. It has bothered me and many others (who have contacted me privately when this issue has come up in the past few years) that being a "HOG" just doesn't hold the same status or true meaning as it once did.

It seems like now days, wanting to be a "HOG" is motivated by greed, "I want to be a "HOG" so I can save $35 on a knife" as opposed to " I was recognized as a positive contributor to the Busse family and thus made a "HOG". If all it takes to be a HOG is to simply take a picture of yourself holding a Busse knife, it doesn't seem so special does it? Well, unless you need the $35 savings I guess. Why not just give everyone the same discounted price to sell knives instead of saying it is a "HOG Special"?

I'm sure that your warm welcome means a lot to the new guys. . . .

I agree that the definition of a "HOG" has evolved over time. . . Thank heavens!!!. . . I really believe that the more the merrier, always have, always will.. . .

Luckily, or sadly, depending on your point of view, I am the one who ultimately defines the criteria. . . and my definition stands.

So, in the spirit of a true HOG, why not welcome the new guys with open arms and a beer instead of throwing down some exclusionary rules and definitions that would keep them out?

Admittedly there are those who I would classify as "Alpha Boars" whose collections are overwhelming, while there are others who I would classify as "Alpha Boars" whose collections are very small but whose contributions are overwhelming. They frequent these forums regularly and are more than willing to assist anyone who might need help or information.

I understand your concerns but really think that it is time to move forward with the criteria.

So what if a guy only wants to be a HOG so that he can score a better price? . . . . I can think of nothing more HOG-Like than that! . . . . For those who have been to the BLADE Show, you know that we may all drink together at night, but once the trough opens and the offers start. . . . the trampling begins!

It is important to note that the term "INFI HOG" was coined by Skunk who called OneWhoBuys (The Original HOG) by that name because he was "Hogging up all of the INFI" . . . .

I will point out Folducci that your post does have one very positive aspect that I find very refreshing. . . . Not once did you mention the word "folder". . . and for that, we all thank you!!!! :D

Now let's Drink!!!!

And I will never again.

Well said. The inmates should not make the rules even if they are supremely insane :p.

All kidding aside, I learn so much from, and respect, the "old-timers" (compared to most of whom I am surely far older) for their knowledge and would someday like to be merit their respect. No chit, daddio!

Continue drinking!

I see both points and I think it's very generous of Jerry, the more the merrier. Although to have a true status on the forums, we all know who all the true HOGs are by our behavior.

Busse Knife Group and BF members ROCK ! Time to upgrade my membership.....

Rest assured, all HOGS acknowledge and respect your "status" regardless of new universal discounts to relative newcomers. You guys deserve and receive the respect you have earned. You don't have to bargain for it. You just have to believe that, because it's true! Your contributions will not be minimized, diminished, etc. No such thing. You were the "early adaptors" and are clearly respected as such. Again, believe this. Drink happily!

I'm sending my pic in to gain this newby HOG status for sure! But I wouldn't consider myself any where near the HOG status of some of the big HOGs on here after seeing some of their collections. Don't worry Alpha Boars, I'm sure most of new guys will keep looking up to you, at least as far as your large collections and contributions. Thanks Boss for the opportunity!!!

100% class -thanks so much for your inclusive offer, Bossman.
I can't wait for the MUK and I sincerely hope to shake your hand much sooner than later.:thumbup:

There are hundreds and hundreds of knife makers out there, and a thousand times that many more knives... There is a reason beyond the blade for spending my money on a Busse...

The above quote from Jerry, is "exactly" why becoming a "HOG" or being welcomed or associated--at all--in any fashion to the Busse family of products means anything. Exclusion, based on the amount of capital (collection) one may, or may not be able to spend on a particular product is something I would expect to see from a lesser individual or company in an attempt to "push" their product line...

Based on my experience (how ive been treated), and what Ive seen (here) over the past several months, and for the year that I watched prior--the waters run deeper at Busse.

We all know who the "Old Guard" is... those of us who are new dont respect them because of an acronym, we respect them because of the wisdom and knowledge they share...

I dont really care what you call me, I'll be a fan of Busse products for life regardless.

Thanks again Jerry!

I for one, am very thankful for Jerry being kind enough to let some of us in on a great deal who otherwise might not. I'm not here to compete with anyone that came before and I respect their experience. I just enjoy reading and chatting about our little common hobby and sharing some of my thoughts or experiences as well. One thing that was frustrating in the military was the whole "Date of rank/length of service" thing especially since the point was to work together to come home safe. While the higher/older ranks were given respect, we also knew that it might just be the newest guy who saved your bacon since life is so unpredictable. Thankfully we all see things differently so that makes us all unique and I have learned more from other opinions as a result.

I learned about all of the expenses of travelling from AZ to AR to attend a show in person last year. While it was great fun, I just can't do it every year, especially if I have to sell off INFI to accomodate it. If I can go, I will, but times are tougher. Where I live now is even further away from all of the shows especially Blade. A show west of the Rockies would be a lot easier, but until one happens it is just wishful thinking. :p

So again, a big Thank You to Jerry for bringing the MUK and working with us newer piglets since we know that is all we are!  :D

I just edited Jerry's post:)
