What other outdoor hobbies

USPSA -- Practical Shooting. They used to call it Combat Shooting at one time, but apparently people got upset. If you have not tried it, it is FUN STUFF!

Go to USPSA.org or IDPA.com to check it out.

USPSA has a more shooting on a stage [and we like to say less rules].

Steel Challenge - Also owned and run by USPSA, this is a blast. Pun intended. Clanging steel!

IDPA, is built around personal defense. Some IDPA stages require a knife be used!

hhhmmm... lets see.... archery/bowhunting, rockclimbing, mtn. biking, backpacking, hiking, camping, fishing and a little trail running here and there...:D

we are a very outdoors oriented family, our 2 boys love spending time in the woods... my wife on the other hand is pretty damn hardcore, she has spent more time in the backcountry than most folks i know and now she has taken up shooting archery with us boys.... :D

I am a big fan of archery... Indoor, 3D, Hunting. Pretty big into that in the spring and fall.

Summer... you will usually find me camping on the beach. Surfing, Surfcasting, or relaxing.

Love kayaking, My son is just getting old enough to take his own yak and venture out with me.

Snowboarding, although not as much as before I had children.

Cycling, road and mountain (and a Killer V doesn't show your age, other than being a pup :D)
Motorcycling
Shooting

I really need to get a hydrometer, I have been using red star yeast also and not adding any extra sugar at all and it still ferments out to battery acid. Like to get a nice mellow 6 to 8% cider, need to do some more research, and find a recipe that I like. Thanks, Chris

I like being called a pup, I work with a bunch of 20 somethings and get to feeling like an old man at 42. Chris

I bought my killer v in about 93 and have a nice set of rock shox on it, nice back then anyway. :D Chris

I love suspension, I jumped on that bandwagon from the start. I have one of the very first Rock Shox with a SN under 2k. This is the last MTB I bought (around 2001 I think)...the fork has been replaced by a Fox since that pic was taken.

Lots of good articles and recipes here, Chris. Enjoy!

It occurs to me that you could let your cider ferment fully, stabilize it with potassium sorbate (to prevent re-fermentaion), and blend it down to your desired strength with the same type of juice you started with.

My first mountain bike was a Schwinn series 90 with Sun Tour XC Pro and thumb shifters. When suspension started getting big I put a marzocchi air/oil front forks on it and thought I was the stuff. Man I loved that bike, wished I still had it. Chris

Thanks

I bought a smaller stopper and air lock for a 1 gallon jug this week. I am going to put a small batch on this weekend and make smaller batches till I get something I like. Thinking about trying a liquid ale yeast that is not as alcohol tolerant as the red star I am using now. I have been buying and drinking german beer in the flippy bottles and saving the bottles so I am also shooting for some carbonation this time. Chris

Thinking of doing just that to get my carbonation. Starting off just putting a bit of juice in to kick off the fermentation again, I don't want any explosions in the fridge. Chris

Back in the day I used to do lots of outdoor stuff. I had my brother close by and he is an avid hunter and fisherman. I met my wife and introduced my little stepdaughter to fishing .

O for those days back. The "little" one is turning 14 in a month, my family is falling apart, and my brother moved quite a bit away. These days if I get to backpack alone thats about it, other than daytrips to the woods.

But I have the memories:o

Sorry for the pics of pics! No digitals back then:(

Yeah, you don't want to end up with 5 gallons of :barf:

Let me know how the carbonation goes, I haven't done that yet. It is a good excuse to drink good beer :D I love Grolsch but it's getting harder to find with the cool re-usable stopper thingies.

I used to be an avid mountain biker, and still dabble from time to time. Eventually I will get back into it in earnest.

Other than that, aside from hiking and camping, I enjoy:

snowshoeing,

canoeing,

and fishing.

All the best,

Runsalone,
Ought to hook up this spring and do some trout fishing in the north GA mountains. I am going to Korea for a year in August, my son joined the Air Force and is leaving for basic in March and my wife just got a new job working nights and weekends. So my schedule is clear and since this is my last summer here, I plan on getting out as much as possible. :D Chris

EDIT: Great pics BTW
