What pattern would you like to see in 2016 as the Trad Forum Knife

I think a Scout pattern for the 2016 Forum knife is a great idea. If a 4 blade is expensive and difficult to produce would a 3 blade scout be significantly easier and less expensive to produce yet still desirable? Just a thought.

Yes, a three blade would be less expensive.

3 blade may be less expensive, but I want a Scout knife, not a Cub-scout knife. ;)

and someone asked for an image of jigged micarta, here are a couple:

:DWhat did I say :D

You're the man Charlie. How about throwing a pruning blade:D

Best regards

Robin

A 3 5/8" three blade Scout knife would be outstanding.

Looking at that Cub Scout knife - can it be done like a whittler with the caplifter & awl on one end, blade on the other?

Charlie,
your will to dive into another forum knife (and a scout pattern, for that matter) is awesome. Whether it will become real or not, I want to thank you for your contribution (and I also want to thank Barry and everyone else involved in the history of the forum knife).
Back to your proposal...a few thoughts.
Personally, I would prefer the three blades/tools version pictured above (not much for price issues, more for ease of build - no crinking or offset on the main blade, less things that could bother a very demanding crowd :p ). I'm in for micarta (green is fine, jigged or not). I would much prefer a 440C version considering the pattern and its intended use. Size is just right. Bail...not sure about it

Fausto

For me a bail isn't essential. At most, a lanyard hole would be fine with me. But I'd be fine without too.

If we're being offered a Scout Knife, my choice would be carbon steel, traditional 4-blade, with shield and bail

You know I had a Scout in my mind but didn't want to bring it up so I figured I'll just do like last year and let the masses decide and if it was something I really wanted gret and if not I will always be in as long as there's a knife. Darn if Charlie wasn't peakin' in my head. ;)

I'm super pleased that the interest is there and Charlie's experience and enthusiasm in pullin' off miracles precedes this. I think a Scout knife with a bail is a great direction, more, more. :)

3-5/8" - check
Many uses - check
Different than the other forum knives - check
Jigged micarta, green canvas!? - check

I don't see any reason to say no to this one! And I agree with a post above about adding in a handling charge. No one likes to work for free and when you really think about the process of receiving the knives and then mailing them all out, it's a lot of work.

Heels over head for this one Charlie. Completely in no matter the cost.

Agreed Jake, checks off all the boxes..:D :D

I'll echo Fausto in regards to using 440C steel. I know, I know, the last Forum knife was stainless steel - but this would be a good model for GEC to use it on. Maybe even a fitting "Last Hurrah" use of the Acorn shield?

Same here! I want a knife I can camp & fish with, and not worry abut rust!

The acorn shield would look GREAT on this pattern as well!

Hmmmm 440C, the acorn shield, since it's on the way out, and putting it on a new PPP marked pattern....😍

Then after that, GEC can make the regular runs in 1095 with any shield they want.

Great idea this scout knife is. I would prefer a 4-blade over the 3-blade (as long as we're talking dreams here) and the cost of adding a bail, would absolutely be worth it.

Micarta....:thumbup::thumbup:

I'm very interested in a 4 bladed scout
Bail- nice but not needed
Either steel
JIGGED MICARTA- yes
I like the acorn shield idea.

I usually want single bladed knives. If more than two I only tend toward a SAK or camp knife. Sounds expensive but I like where this is heading.

I love the idea of a pocket sized scout dressed in micarta.

However; as I have previously posted, my interest leans to the 3 blade 'cub scout' version (bail and locking liners optional).

This scout business is all well and good and let me repeat my earlier statement that which I have stated every year since 2010 no matter what -I'm In.
But wait a just a dadburned overstated minute here. Hasn't the scout pattern been done before? and Aren't we meant as a group to put an original innovative flavour into this knifey casserole?
Has this been the case so far as yet with all our BFs?
Is this a good time for me to say the "A "word?
The micartas shown above whilst very nice looking seem to be imitating jigged bone-the saving grace is that they are maybe cheaper to produce than real bone? dunno for sure .
I'm just gunna pour some water down the diesel injectors here and say ...
3 different acrylic patterns?because it hasn't been done yet?
