What SAK are ya totin' today?

Well, it's neither pristine nor original. Friday it was an Explorer, a Waiter and a Spartan, Saturday it became a white Scientist. If Ted decides he doesn't want it, I'll probably keep it and do another one with blue scales so I can have red, white and blue Scientists.

Interesting, I did not know they were so easily modified. Seems anyone would still be glad to have one even if just for the tool combination. A magnifying glass comes in handy checking out small writing such as tang stamps at flea markets, garage sales etc. I carry an explorer for that purpose but less bulk would be nice on such occasions. BTW the patriotic scientist idea made me smile. -James

They're easily modified if you have a drill press and some experience. It also helps to have a Unimat tabletop lathe to turn new pins when needed, but Explorer to Scientist doesn't really require new pins. When you open one up, you find they are a marvel of manufacturing shortcuts, no hand fitting is required. Just keep everything together on each layer and don't get too zealous peening the pins. I actually did two Scientists Saturday, the red one is in my pocket today and everything but the corkscrew got used.

You'll also need a Waiter or Bantam or something to donate the combo tool to replace the pen blade.

That is pretty sweet, and I looked it up on the interweb with the thought of purchasing one. I read from one reviewer that the design is painted (or otherwise applied) to the surface and is not under a clear coat. What is your assessment? Thanks.
