What SOGs do you own?????

I came across a SG-30S Magna Dot in perfect condition with a nylon sheath. It looks like a good trail knife. Are they any good? Worth anything?

The Magnadot doesn't have the fancy stainless bolsters and classy handle materials of some of the high-end SOG products, but it's a solid working knife and should serve you well on the trail.

Checking SOG's site, it's discontinued. It is available from a number of online sources for anywhere between $40-70.

If you want a useful trail knife, the Magnadot will do the job. If you want a collectible that you're going to preserve in mint status, well, someday...

It's not that farfetched, either. Here's a true story. A long time ago, (in a galaxy far, far away) during the "happy times" of the 1980s, a company called Blackjack Knives made a knife called the "Folding Mamba". It came in a fancy version with stainless bolsters and a working version with an all-Zytel handle, much like the Magnadot.

Blackjack collectors now pay anywhere between $80-100 for that same all-Zytel handled Folding Mamba.

So, even though the Magnadot is no longer in production now, there's still enough around so it isn't really a "collector's piece" just yet. But one day, not so far in the future, the collecting market will "wake up" and realize it's out of production and then the prices will climb.

...and Lord help the collecting market if the Magnadot appears in a hit movie.

I owned

2 SOG S1 (lovely)
1 Tech Bowie
1 S2
1 Tomcat 3
1 Seal 2000
1 Sealpup
1 Tigershark Non Serrated

I did have a original Daggert but got rid of that...

Now...

I own no SOGS at all :) I have sold them all bar one and 'lost' that too :(

Just one: SOGwinder (??? before thumbstud version or they called it something else back then)

Original Tigershark....when they first appeared... Mint
pentagon
Sogwinder I (the big one)
Flash II
Goverment (original design w leather sheath)

I got a SOG Spec-Elite 1 today to give my SOG access card a friend, both are sweet knives and have a good edge. Both are fun for flickin' open too.

I'm working on acquiring an original Vietnam Presentation SOG...don't have it yet though!!

It's a very old idea, Sir Galant. Here's the scoop from the site:

The tradition behind sets like these, is that working men would sharpen them at the weekend in order to have a fresh, sharp SOG knife on demand each morning, before work, when time was short. A few vintage sets are available to collectors but they are rarely useable.
This set is the perfect present for the serious SOG user, or for collectors.

He'll be getting the days of the week engraved on them, next. :p

Hello everybody; I'm a newbie and this will be my first post. I've got two SOG knives - and ordered a third online just today. I have an original, non-serrated Tigershark that I bought about 10+ years ago. It's still hanging, in its original sheath, in my home office. I also have an even older SOG folder. A long discontinued model (I can't remember the name). It's heavy, has a thick blade with an ambidextrous thumb post through it, and a rubber checkered grip. The one I just ordered is a Daggert 2 (the version with the black blade), which should be arriving in the mail sometime next week. I don't like kydex, so I tried to find a sheath for it at Survival Sheath Systems, but they don't make it for that model. If anyone here can recommend a good after-market sheath for the Daggert 2 I would be grateful. Anyway, glad to be here! This is an awesome forum.

Welcome to the forum and the site, Irminsul!:D

Oooh, you're going to love this. Dante's is selling a SOG sheath that's specifically listed as fitting the Daggert 2! It's at the bottom of the page.

As an alternative for about $10 more than the nylon sheath, you can have a plain, "working" handmade leather sheath done by Chris Kravitt of Treestump Leatherworks. He's been in business for ages and I can personally recommend his work.

Vaako, thanks for the welcome and the tips. Shows that what Jung said regarding synchronicity was right. :D I'll look them up right away. By the way, the SOG folder I mentioned in my post is the earliest version of the Sogwinder. I think they've slimmed it down a bit in recent production.
