What sort of Job do you have?

i am semi-retired right now, me and another bud have been looking into opening up a "gentlemans club" or "cabaret" in the austin metro area, i figured if ya open your own biz ya gotta put in some hours to make it work and i think i could put in some hours in one of those lol.

i'll post job openings on bladeforums for all you guys......

Ahh yes, I have worked in many of these establishments and enjoyed my time there.
My only concern is the owners behind the owners in many cases down here are people like Tony Montana. :(

I'm a structural engineer currently working for a small design consultancy. I occasionally use my knives when I'm on site, I usually take a beater to test rotten wood and scrape rust and sealant and other assorted crud off steelwork I need to inspect.

My favourites like my small sebbie, mcusta and spydercos are saved from the rigours of site. I use them for the usual stuff. Opening letters and packaging, cutting up cardboard for recycling etc...

Gas Turbine Combined Cycle Power Plant Supervisor, and part time Knifemaker. They actually issue us knives! So far, A Buck 110 Folding Hunter and a Leatherman Wave.

I am a latino so knives were common when growing up. LOL.
Do a lot of fishing (salt and fresh water) and hunting. Knives play a big roll with those outdoor activities.
Current job- Keeping up with the payments of my wife's expenses.

We both have the same job.... :)
Although I had to finally cut my wife off ( no pun intended).

What sort of Kitchen knives are the Chef's using?

To my knowledge common kitcen knives, going from the 8 inch chef down to 4 inch paring and everything in between. Though I'll be attending Colledge for my culinary arts degree in September, so we'll see if they have anything different then, eh?

Ijfleming,
Watch your fingers.

I am a prof. at an intermediate sized university and environmental scientist who specializes in wildlife toxicology and contaminant modelling. I teach different courses in biology and environmental sciences at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I do my share of field work, mainly on boats, where my knives are useful. I also love to camp and fish whenever I get a chance.

I really enjoy these forums because of the diversity of mindsets, generally clear and articulate dialogue, well considered advice and sense of humour that permeates many threads. I have learned an incredible amount in the short time I've been visiting these forums and am looking forward to testing advice given in practice. I find myself drawn to the wilderness and survival skills forum more often because I feel I can contribute the most there.

Great venue - and this was an excellent thread to read!

I work for a federal agency, the Securities a & Exchange Commission, as a financial analyst. I have 39 years of federal service, 33 with the SEC, this month and will most likely be retiring before too much longer. The reason for the use of the term "Bureaucrat" in my Profile is that a warped sense of humor that finds it funny. That and the fact that I once had a boss who hated the thought that he might be a bureaucrat so, of course, I constantly referred to myself and, thus, him as a bureaucrat. I got great pleasure out of irritating the jerk.

I am a Financial Advisor/Financial Planner (11 yrs). I help people manage their investmensts. I have all types of clients. Some like to make their own decisions. I offer input if I think they're making a mistake. Most of my clients take my advice though.

I EDC at least 2 folders and 1 fixed blade to work everyday. Lately, I've been taking my Benchmade Skirmish, Benchmade Griptilian 550, Syderco Waved Endura 4, Buck Strider SBMF, and Buck Hartsook Ultra Light neck knife. Sometimes my Cold Steel SRK rides in the briefcase. I keep a Meyerco with OD Green G-10 scales in my desk at work to open boxes and letters.

I am retired but have a small farm to keep me busy and gives me a place to hunt and camp.

I run a 50 ton Joy miner, from 3 to 5 miles in. Just depends on where we are at the time.

ex military ( army in the early 80's), and have held jobs in most labor environments. Also fun stuff like armorers schools, snipers, some demo, SWAT/PERT. 15 years working as a correctional officer and double shifting as security ( personal and physical both, Worked NATO dignitary security for a time while in army) has caused my body to revolt with a bone disease. I am now forced retirement, with 2 operations down and seven more needed. My wife of 25 years had enough and left with the money and now I sit in a breaking down house not able to finish bone operations needed to get back to work ( only 47 years old). Surgeon refuses to do any more as I have no one at home to care for me after the surgery. Have one dog left from everything, Finn the Mastiff. For those who are animal lovers don't worry, he gets fed even when I don't. He deserves it for his loyalty.

While I still could I did some stock removal knives with mostly hand tools. I also worked the gunshow locally for money when I could but that didn't work out. Darksider tendencies and I really like tungsten in my steels, like M2, Super blue, Vascowear, etc. ZDP is very nice too.

Dislikes: people that complain about their brand of knives when they break them prying or spinewhacking them to death.

Likes: the right tools for the jobs, and having the tools in the right spot. Joe

I do just what my handle says. I'm a Baptist minister, but that doesn't pay the bills. I actually don't know anyone who got into ministry for the money. I pay my bills doing research and consulting on theology, philosophy and religion, mostly for Christian authors and graduate and post-graduate seminary students.

I always have my Leatherman Wave with me, even when I preach, whether I’m wearing jeans or a suit. As to how I occasionally use knives in my line of work, every so often I use knives as visual metaphors and sermon illustrations.

I find that the knife making process (both forging and stock removal), tempering and sharpening make good metaphors for many natural and spiritual processes in a person’s life: character development, maturity, habit formation, dealing with addictions, spiritual rebirth, spiritual awakening, spiritual growth, recognizing and developing spiritual gifts, etc. My favorite knife metaphor goes: just as a knife is only as effective as the hand that wields it, so is man.
