What sort of Job do you have?

Gummint man, where carry of a knife is legal, but at the very least will get you ostracized from the Agency, and will probably get you fired, if you aren't brought down in a hail of gunfire by the guards. So, naturally, I don't carry mine at work. :(

I graduated from college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked as an aerospace proplusion engineer for several years. I have since migrated to software development and now develope realtime embedded software for military aircraft.

I would really like to retire when I'm 55, buy several 100 acres of hunting land in Montana, and start a bird dog training and pheasant hunting outfitter business.

Began 27 years ago as a lineman for a small telco. Moved up and around and wound up as a switching engineer for a nationally known cellular company. Left that in November to work for an engineering consultant designing communications systems for mainly government agencies. I'm the only person in my office who carries a knife, so people seek me out quite often.

About me: Was in the computer repair/service biz for 20 years and semi-retired, found I couldn't keep up with the kids who were born with keyboards. Started a small custom house painting biz with a friend, have been at it for 10+ years.

Grew up on an apple farm near New Paltz, NY., starting with Grandpa, who gave me my first knife, I've had one of many, many in the pocket since.

Discovered Benchmade last year and now have a decent collection. I seem to like the older models better then the new: just bought a Benchmade CQC7 Emerson design, and am excited about it. I have a '99 EKI CQC7 and am looking forward to comparing the two.

Also a Gummint man, but by virtue of being senior management -- and the fact that we have an employee entrance and don't have to go through the metal detector -- do get to carry a knife at work. Never get to use it for more than trimming a loose thread, cutting tape (we use red duct tape to repair claims folders), or opening an envelope. Oh, and once and a while, to get the roll of TP in the men's room -- the roll that seems to be welded shut so that you can't get the first sheet started -- to cooperate.

Retired Installer (telephone switching equipment), Quality consultant, Supervisor, Project manager and Manager. Also worked in retail produce, in a paint development lab, and swamped trucks.

University lecturer in Europe.House in the country for week-end use where I like to get into the forest or do gardening.Been carrying some kind of knife since 7,feel naked without it. Get odd looks when carrying a knife in places you wouldn't think would bother:Tyre shop, people eyeing a Buck folder with suspicion, yet when wearing a Russian fixed-blade at work on suit trousers students seem unfazed.Odd world eh?

Great jobs, but, I have the best job in the world. I design knives. I planned a career in the US Army, that did not work out so I sold suits and shoes for a while, then sold insurence for Jefferson Standard then sold fire alarms for home and drink dispensers for bars and eating places. Retired at 30 to a farm to raise 4 kids, was a farmer for 10 years while developing a catalog knife business. Phil Gibbs, 27 years with Camillus, says that his job of engeneering my designs so that they will function well is the best job. We just placed 11 new designs with verious makers at the SHOT Show and have dozens more under development. This is the most fun I have had in over 40 years in the knife buisness.

Can't wait for the next catalog. Thank you for retiring to the farm. I remember the newsprint catalogs, and look forward to your designs.

B.S Mgt. Technology, Asc. Asc. Auto Technology. I've been in retail sales, accounts payable, payroll, commission sales disbursement, office management, foreign export invoicing, estimator for architectural hardware, auto parts, and thermal battery expediter, among others.

Right now I'm operating a press brake at a plant manufacturing cabs for yard trucks, fire engines, and 200 ton dump trucks. Did I mention 22 years in the Army Reserve, retired, and a veteran (who isn't these days?)

Always something new!

U.S. Coast Guard. I use my knife all day every day, which is why I came to this forum. I had a CRKT knife, and it was alright, but once the cold, wet water took effect, I couldn't seem to hold the knife any longer. I'm now learning about what makes a good knife a good knife, so thanks to all! I should be purchasing here soon...

I'm a college professor (molecular biology). I'm sorry, A.G., but I think that this is the best job in the world: discovering things that have never been known before, and working with incredibly bright and motivated young people -- what could be better? I hang out here because I have carried a knife since childhood & will continue to do so daily. It is very handy in the laboratory, and nearly everywhere else.

I work in the film industry as a vfx artist. I use a Leatherman and a CS Trailmaster on set. I recently used the trailmaster on an outdoor set cutting branches off trees for 'dingleberry' for use in front of the camera while shooting a horror film. We were going to use it as a prop, but the safety team deemed it a bit too dangerous to be swinging around in fight setups. It's all fun and games until someone loses an arm!

I'm a firefighter, 2 years in. I use a delica 4 for my station uniform and use it for various tasks. I'm going to buy a spyderco assist for my turnout coat i think. There have been many times while doing vehicle extrication where i wished i had a knife on my coat. Thinking about that is how i discovered this forum. Thanks for all the help and insight in all the posts.

I am a Deputy Sheriff. It's nice to see Rochester on the boards. (Lone Hunter and Longbow) :)

+1

I work as a package handler for FedEx ground. where I do not bring anything sharp for fear of being fired, or worse being accused of theft (it's valuable, you must have stolen it:grumpy: :barf: )

I also work in thechnical theater in various capacities from stage hand to stage manager, and from technical director to Master Electrician and LD, with a large bit of set carpentry and rigging in between, depending on the scale of the production. Mostly on the community/educational level. There my EKI Karambit gets employed to cut never-ending lengths of tie-line. My Native and Ares see lots of action cutting lighting gel. And my Leatherman has been instrumental in installing countless twist-lock and stage-pin electrical plugs.

I also hunt ninja's

High school teacher: chemistry, physical sciences, biology, environmental sciences. I have found some of the information from this board very useful in discussions concerning steel alloys and properties of metals. I am fortunate in that the people I work with are not "knifeaphobic", my usual edc at work is benchmade 707.

Chronic lurker here...but, my specialty is pain control / anesthesiology.

Too darn busy to post much...BUT, did get a Ka-Bar Dozier recently: it is a very nice knife! Amazing for only $20.
