What to ask a knife maker?

KGD: The photo of you and your lady sticks in my mind. I see a loving couple enjoying time away from civilization. My hope is that you never have to depend absolutely on a knife in a life threatening situation. Your shared joy is obvious!

My haunting fear is that one day one of my knives might fail, thus I have spent a lot of time developing knives that can be depended on - absolutely. I have not worked alone, many have inspired and worked on developing what we call the High Endurance Performance Knife, we have shared all we have learned. Any maker can do it, it is not rocket science, but careful attention to details - one at a time. I cannot make enough knives to make much of a difference, but each maker who in the quest improves the odds of more dependable knives in the future.

The reason for this post is my hope that you who are interested in survival or maybe simply convenience will ask makers these questions, let us know that our patrons are interested in performance and encourage as many makers as possible to consider the thoughts discussed in this thread as they develop their knives of the future.

I will take a closer look at Rat Knives, maybe they will be at Blade Show West in September.
