What to do when you reach the end of your list?

The big question is if you are using your knives. Lists are great for collectors. But if you like to use knives you should be beating the crap out of some of them, exploring steels, I like old school 440c, high carbon and super fine grained powdered steels myself, sizes of knife, types of locks, styles traditional vs. Modern.

Weekdays I will carry a Case style traditional most of the time. The only thing thst changes that is a mnandi or a French Le Thiers right now.

Weekends I mostly like Spydercos.

I figured this out after trying out, buying, selling, trading giving away more than a 100 knives.

Exactly. Personally, I have found that huge collections, unless they are made of truly rare or old items, tend to display the opposite of the prestige they try to convey...: They show a lack of discernment and restraint...

Gaston

As opposed to the James Bond level of class shown by shoving a huge knife in a tube sock down one's pants...

People collect all kinds of things. In my case I am not seeking prestige or even claiming such exists. Lack of restraint.... perhaps. I just like knives.

relatively new to the forum, but longtime fan of quality knives. started out several years ago with a spyderco Endura clip-it with ats-55. Now that I'm done with school/training, new job/new income, I've been working on my list.
Not too long ago got a mini-griptilian, kershaw skyline, Ontario rat-2, spyderco sage 1, cold steel American lawman, boker urban trapper.
Recent additions include a pm2 in s30v, zt 0562cf, spyderco military m4, Bradford guardian 3 in m390. One of the knives left for me is a large sebenza. Thought I'd let my wife get me that one for my 40th.

So, to my point, what do you do when you've pretty much checked off most of your list? Hunt for special editions? Wait for new models each year? Sprint runs? Or maybe I should turn my bench grinder into a sharpener/polisher...

Does not computer. What is this "end of list" that you speak of?

Save money for when the bug bites again. It probably will.

I thought found my perfect edc folder in 2004 (CRK Small Sebenza), albeit at an "insane" Price. Then CRK comes up with the Small Sebenza Insingo in S35VN and I "have" to have one. It becomes my new perfect edc folder. I'm done, or so I think.

Fast forward a few years, I start dressing up a bit more, and stumble across a CRK Mnandi (Thuya Burl) that sings to me.

Now I rationalize I "need" a second Mnandi (ebony) and should buy second Small Insingo in case I lose my current one. I'm short on funds for knives, so I'm looking at 2018 at best.

Then I probably am truly done with knives. Or so I think.

I don't have a "list."

I don't like to plan ahead because that's when the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the court room.

I seriously don't have a list, and there really isn't much that catches my eye, especially in moderns. Until I'm able to work again, and the Ti framelock is no longer what makers focus on, I'm sticking to slipjoints.

I'm content with what I have actually. There is still that nagging want of a fixed blade, but i know somewhere in my storage pod is my Jerry Fisk sharpened BK5.

I do not maintain a want-to-have list, but there are new models showing up that I want to have. I have definitely slowed down my pace of purchasing and learned to wait for a while if a knife would be the one that I truly want. Also, I feel that I have reached a point that I do not plan to spend more money on this hobby, which means if I truly want a knife, it has to be good enough such that I am willing to let go some knife/knives from my collection.

Here is an example, I have been eyeing on ZT 0630cf and ZT 0920, but I am still not quite sure if it is a good idea to replace my ZT0561 and Benchmade 940-1501 with them. So, I am still hesitating.

I've been thru so many knives it really stinks or something else if you know what I mean. So mostly, I'm trying to buy knives I let slip thru my fingers that I wish I hadn't. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat I am.
For instance, I'm on the lookout for an Al Mar mini Sere. Had one, traded it or sold it and now I'm kicking myself in my bum. Have stuff to trade. (That I won't want back sometime) :)

End of list?!? Blasphemy! My man, you need to subscribe to the threads/forums here where makers offer their knives, and apparently you need to be visiting more websites like KSF, AZCK, BHQ, GPK, KC, DLT and many others on a daily basis and I promise you your list will only grow each week/month and your funds won't be able to keep up unless you're pullin in about 500k+, annually.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out Fiddleback Forge here for the flea market and Friday listings, and definitely don't skip over Carothers Performance Knives(CPK) - I think a folder is in the works.

It's funny you mention the large sebenza...this time last year I swore I'd never buy a CR...I'm currently waiting on my 21 to arrive in the mail. :D

Agreed that my list is ever-growing... however I've found myself exploring a different genre (recently really got into traditionals) and honing (pardon the pun) my sharpening skills as my predominantly Spyderco knife collection has grown.
