For instance, instead of buying a new knife, conduct edge-retention tests with the knives that you already own, or master the art of freehand sharpening, or write reviews, etc. This is a great way to increase the breadth and depth of the hobby.
It can also provide direction for future purchases. For example, if you develop a fascination with edge-retention, then you might decide that you want your next knife to be made from CPM-10v or CPM-S110v, because you really want to try them.
In my opinion, this is one of the best things about knives. You can go a lot of different directions with the hobby.
