What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I'm carrying a cattle knife and muskrat today. I have a question for the porch on the muskrat. My dad gave this one to me about 20 years ago, its a 70s era knife. How did it end up with two different scales? Was this something they did or an error? He told me this is how the knife came out of the box when he purchased it. Happy Thursday to all!

I have a couple knives like that, with one side much darker. I always thought one side was in the sun on a dresser-top for too long, or the knife was always carried same side out in the pocket. If it came out of the box that way, I would guess a variation between dye batches.
But that is an uninformed guess, like most of my guesses.

Pretty common with Case pocketknives from the 1970's until the mid 1990's. I don't think it was a lack of quality control as much as it was the perspective that the knife was a tool, not a collectible. Evenly matched (as much as a natural material allows) in Case Knives came along with the many, many colors cataloged and offered since the mid 1990's and later. The 1983 Whittler I am carrying today has the same mismatch on the scales - in fact, except for Delrin handled knives half of my 1970's and 1980's Case have slightly to massively mismatched scales. This Whittler even has new grind secondary and old grind main blades! The W&T and F&F is perfect though. OH

Thank you much, Dennis!
How do you like the GAK? I’ve always thought they look great.
They are great knives for sure, Jeff. Great for camping with the little saw, comes in handy more times than you would think. 😀👍
Thanks pal, that is a GREAT combination  I carried a Mauser Officer's Knife (basically a GAK with an extra blade) for around 10 years
Thanks buddy! I had a different one during the war that was given to me in Germany, but it was marked with NATO. It too was lost in the sand. 😡
That GAK is a good-looking scout knife!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks, Gary! They are a very handy knife for sure!😀👍
Coffee and 'Ginger Nuts' theme! :D ;) I took a bunch of pics of my Glennbad Biscuit in the woods at the weekend, and every one was out of focus, so having to rely on an old one  Pairing it with my Rosewood Big 'Un

View attachment 1650078View attachment 1650079I trimmed five different vegetables with the stockman before bringing them in for supper last evening. One of them left an interesting patina/stain.
That is an unique patina, and a great pocket full of knives Jeff! I do love the Craftsman Shield, gotta surf the evilbay place now!😀👍
Got these two wooden beauties with me today. Having a few beers down at our lakeside bar with a buddy I teach with after basketball practice tonight. We call it a “Teacher’s Workshop,” sometimes we call it “Professional Development!” 😄 Either way the cap lifter on this little Boker will come in handy. 😉👍View attachment 1650088

Received the awful news of a shipmate I sailed with during my time in Bahrain had passed. Life perspective moments occur far too often and too easily forgotten in our day to day lives. Fair winds and following seas to those that have come before us and are no longer with us.
Condolences on the loss of your friend, Jon.😔 We do grow close to those we serve with!

A nice carry today as well.

Carrying a super pair of my favorites, gifted by two super friends JohnDF JohnDF & Jack Black Jack Black . !

Three solid knives, Jeff. 🤠
There’s prettier, but not much is more solid than delrin.
Whoever modded the Boker did a superb job. Strong snap, great w&t...it’s a joy.
Guess it might just be they didn't have the best quality control haha. Thanks for the responses!
QC?
Reach in a bin and grab a slab, and pin it on. Reach in another bin, and grab another...
Not yet - that is for sure! We cashed out high and were planning to move across the country for work, but were approached by a close family friend on hospice - we are caretaking and paying rent for the next short chapter. It will give us some time to sink some into investments and for the market to come down. Win win I guess:) But man do I hate moving all the things our family accumulates!!
Nice of you to help out in a tough situation.
What with all the talk about the Sheepfoot blade over the last couple days, I feel compelled to carry this #93 Ramfoot with me today to the Brass Rail Restaurant for a French Dip sandwich with salad and fries.

Hi Dennis! Nice friends indeed!
I’ve found the same thing with SAK wood saws.~ handy lil buggers.
Fhanks for the kind comments, my friend. And yes, whether they were made by Camillus, Ulster, or Schrade, the knives we used to be able to buy from Sears, Roebuck were great. But let’s keep that between just you and me, ok?

Edit: Fhanks, and thanks, too!
