Thought I'd give this "New Era" Queen mini-Trapper a go. No reason. Just curious how it would be if I needed a knife today. Made here in the States by some say Bear & Son ????? - anyway the guy that bought out Queen when they went under.

Here's a blurb on this knife when it came out.

"Whether future products will be reminiscent of the older Queen knives is an unknown at this time.
Some folks on forums wrote that Gilbert Cooper, who had bought much of the Queen equipment, tooling and trademarks at auction, sold the Queen trademarks to an officer of SMKW. It was further stated that Bear & Son made these knives. We have it on good authority that this is true. A SMKW representative told one of our team the pilot run consisted of 150 knives."

Wow,is that as good as it looks?
Thanks Johnny. I’ll tell you this - try as I will, I don‘t care for Trappers but this one I like - had to rig it up myself to get the blades I wanted in a Trapper but pleased so far. May get a jigged bone handled 6207 to modify in the near future - I want to do a better job on the nailnick. OH

Memory lane… my first, and last, attempt at making a mandolin from scratch. No idea how many hours I spent in my garage making every piece of this just right. This, ladies and gentlemen, was my absolute pride and joy…

… right up to when I finally put the strings on! Oh, cruel defeat snatched right from the jaws of glory!

In the end, it was determined by a unanimous 1-0 vote that this one sounds best when not played. But she hangs around as a stunning reminder of what could have been!

Very cool, I’m happy to see that and hear you have a winner!

As far as mine goes, yes, many things were wrong with it. It was very much a form over function undertaking. Left the sides and back way too thick, and really focused on the aesthetic details. I knew it wouldn’t sound like a true mandolin, but still anticipated something better in the end. I got my enjoyment from the crafting of it!
