What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

When the sun is out I am out.

I went into my garden to learn a new skill, its dead simple and very useful.

I could have used my saw and sand paper (no fun in that) so I beaver tailed this very hard wood to cut it.

Then I gradually shortened it until it does the job and is pocket friendly, finally scraping of the bark and oiling the wood.

As the sun was still out when I finished I put on 2 down jackets and sat outside and read another chapter from Nessmuk with a strong cup of tea for company.

It was the chapter on camp fires.

Though I like to learn new things I dont think it would go down to well if with my neighbours or the fire brigade if I cut down my tree and set a massive camp fire in my back garden. 😆

So I am back inside with the heating on waiting for something special coming in the post.

Great job 😁
Yet another real world woods task the "bushcrafters" (note quotes) of today don't think of when they falsely claim "... a 12 to 14 inch knife you can baton and chop with is all you need ..." 😳

I have never battoned a knife in my life, then again I wouldn't say I was a bushcrafter I just like to get out and about and learning things can be fun.

They go on about tarp camping all the time.

In the army we used pochos on field training, they had to be very low to the ground,no open fires,no sleep mats, just the waterproof base of the issue sleeping bag.
We didn't use knives, paracord or fancy knots just bungee cords around trees.
It wasn't pleasant, then you add in no sleep and doing it tactically and it was a world of hurt, yes I miss it though 😁

{{{sigh}}} So many nice Barlows the last few days, makes me want to get out one of mine ... even tho it nowhere near as nice as those on the previous pages, and no doubt the yet to be posted in the fallowing pages, no matter which of mine I choose.

Rough Ryder Classic Carbon RR2040 Yellow Barlow, joined by a large MAM friction folder sheepsfoot in my pocket, a Rough Rider "Riders of the Silver Screen" RR1838 'HOPALONG CASSIDY' Moose on my belt, and Toferner Celtic Pocket/Neck knife, hanging from my neck. 😷👍View attachment 1699217
