What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Kind of a dreary day here in New England. Love the character this knife has.

I'm gonna give this Remington R4468 Lumberjack a go today. Lumberjack is Remington's name for this R4468 but Moose would be more like it. Anyway it should come in handy for whatever chore raises it's ugly head today. I should shovel some snow but I'm just too tuckered out to do it.

Good luck with your snow removal Jeff Amir Fleschwund Amir Fleschwund !!
Embarrassingly easy, Ed. 4” of light powder, and the trusty Ahrens started on the first pull! Nothing like what you have to deal with. Well, on the bright side, this ought to help with the wildfires.

That is a strange name for a Moose. Looks like it’s out of the Camillus factory...

Small insignificant change. Swapping out the 852211 Harness Jack for a (based on can opener) 1947 to 1956 Imperial Engineers knife.

As our can see, the 4th blade is a pen blade, rather than the more normal punch/awl of the Scout/Camp/Demo knives. Makes me wonder if the engineers were all officers, with enlisted servents/aids to repair their tents and gear, or if they got better tents and gear than Infantry.
I mean the punch/awl is a right handy thing to have out in the field. Maybe moreso than even scissors?

Clever idea Gary :)
Thanks, Jack. :) I think the idea is based on the process "graphics designers" use, but I'm trying to do it without investing in fancy image-processing software (such as Photoshop, maybe?). Anyway, the theory is sound, but I've discovered that actually cleanly stripping an existing knife photo of its background is very challenging, tedious, and time-consuming. The background stripping is a little easier if the original photo is just a plain, single color (perhaps taking a photo of the knife setting on a sheet of colored paper), but even then, the knife usually casts a shadow that's hard to strip away without also taking little chunks of the knife itself. (My hand is not extremely steady in trying to use a trackpad to draw a smooth outline around the knife and nothing else.)

The last couple of days, I‘ve had something rare - unoccupied time. So last night I bet on a whole lot of sports wrote a carry schedule for the next three months (as opposed to just picking something every morning). I look forward to how it goes.
I've found that having a schedule prepared in advance saves me substantial time each day that I previously used debating with myself what I should carry each morning. I'd certainly be interested in how you think your schedule is working for you as we kick off a new year!:thumbsup::cool:

I had a fun day today with my wife’s family that started at the ocean and ended with a hike in the hills.

Wishing everyone on the Porch a happy and healthy New Year.
That's an unexpected photo! I worry about knives being lost or stolen, but until now, I never worried about knives being grabbed by crustaceans! 😲 o_O 🤓

Makes me dream of Kim Novak in 'Vertigo'
I haven't watched that movie in a long time; I should see if we have it at home, since it's very enjoyable, if somewhat disturbing! Wouldn't take much to make me dream of the Kim Novak character in that movie.

Happy New Year Porch Friends
What knife did you think I was going to carry for the first day of the year? ;)

I was thinking maybe something featuring the King of the Cowboys?? 😁

Magnificent pair for a new year and Stag Saturday, Steve; I especially like that golden lambsfoot!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I thank you all here, my friends and acquaintances on this here porch for all of your kind comments, occaisional and undeserved gifts, humor, wit, and especially your love of traditional knives. Let’s all have a great ‘22.
I never have a Knife Of The Year, but I do have some regular old favorites.

Here’s some older ones that I truly love, and an old Deerslayer I might need later in case coyotes attack while I’m bravely battling our “Winter Storm Warning”
Anyway it IS Schradurday.View attachment 1712852View attachment 1712853Not NY Resolutions in any official sense, but the photos reflect two things I’d like to do more of this year ~ play guitar and read good books. My son sent me this one for Christmas.
Thanks for all your contributions to The Porch, too, Jeff!:cool::thumbsup:
I hope you get a chance to play more music and read more books during 2022 (or MMXXII, as the Romans stutter this year ;)). That Chesterton book looks interesting; about a year ago (maybe longer?) I read a bunch of his Father Brown mysteries, and enjoyed them.

Mini champ alox on a neck lanyard, so it doesn’t slide out of my pajama pocket while I lay around the house today. :D

Great little knife. I really like it.

Whatever else I might carry, I always carry a Minichamp. In general, I tend to be an Alox SAK fan, but I like the red celidor Minichamp because it has an ink pen.:cool::thumbsup:

Hi Gary, I took inspiration from how you schedule your carries, including having occasional free choice slots, for something new or that I may want to carry. I assigned two knives a day, and usually specific knives, but sometimes a type (such as “canoe” or “GEC 15”) which would allow me options on some days.

This is day 3. Day 1: stuck to the schedule. Day 2: only carried one of the two knives assigned. Day 3 (today): changed the schedule to carry the 68 another day. My prediction is that I’ll be pretty true, but sometimes only carry one of the two knives assigned because it‘s what I’m used to and all I need. It’s only three months (except for a trip in February where I’ll possibly take a Cadet and/or Peanut) so not a big ask. I enjoy variety, so it would be harder on me to carry one knife exclusively for that long.
