I once bought a van knowing it had nor reverse gear,I lived in a cul de sac at the time (stupid and short of money).When I was a youth, and starting to drive, the pickup had a clutch, a brake pedal, an accelerator pedal, a dimmer switch, and a STARTER PEDAL, all on the floor and I would have occasion to use all of them at the same time rarely, but for one thing... there were no brakes. For that, I had a nice assortment of blocks of wood and a rock on the seat beside me. To stop, I would circle a hill until I figured that I could step out and quickly throw a chunk in front of a wheel. It often worked. But sometimes... That IS a true story. Learning to shift those old non-synchro trannies was interesting as well. Nowadays, I just put the outfit on cruise control, crawl into the back seat, and wake me when we are there.
