What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks, Jack. I'll carry a pair of pickbones today.

Very nice. I admire your ability to score lovely old antiques.

Out of curiosity, I looked up “pickbone”. And ran out of time before finding a definitive answer. Links to threads on AAPK including links to other threads, and a thread from right here started by Modoc ED Modoc ED from 2011 asking “what is pickbone?”

Anyone who’s ever eaten a peach down to the bare pit knows where Schrade got the name Peachseed. That style of jigging looks just like the surface of a peach pit.
But Pickbone?

Best impression I got was that it’s referring to the method used by hand ~ using a small steel tool - a pick - and hammer to jig the bone. As opposed to any kind of jigging machine. Certainly pre-Dremel, which is what I used in my rudimentary attempt at jigging bone.

Bottom line is that I’m thinking you know pickbone when you see it, and that’s good enough for me.

It's not too difficult to score lovely old antiques as long as your heart isn't set on perfect condition. This one's got a couple of blades broken off, but the remaining sheepsfoot is perfectly usable. I've always liked the way a curved shield looks on a congress pattern, and with the nice bone, I went for it.

I also kinda assumed "pick bone" refers to the process of hand jigging with a pick, or maybe the way the bone looks picked at. I can't remember hearing any other theories, but I don't mind admitting if I'm wrong.

Well, it's off to the Toe Doc for a trim this morning and then on to the Wagon Wheel Cafe, the Holiday Market, and home. I'll be totin this #93 Ram Foot. These are pics of it when new in July 2019 and now after having carried and used it frequently since then. I Flitzed the blade yesterday and cleaned the covers but you can see how the Cocobolo has really darkened. Anyway, it's also freshly sharpened and ready for use again.

🐦 "What's that ? ... 🫒 ? "
( I am afraid the chickadees were not amused by my antics LOL )🤓
What a pic Dan 😃:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I think they’ll eventually get used to it !!
I met up with Bart today at the place he runs his cattle and we fished in his pond.
Bart's a great guy with an epic mustache and was nice enough to let me catch some of the fish too. 😀
Beauty of a day there pal, nice catch :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I had a great time meeting up with John today. He’s every bit as nice a guy as you would expect. I had these two with me (old picture):

We both caught several fish, too.

And in true John DF fashion, he came bearing gifts. A sweet 70’s Case and one of his amazing slips, both of which are in my pocket now.
Awesome of you fellas swappin’ blades and wettiin’ lines all day there :thumbsup::thumbsup:
During our fishing trip yesterday, Bart gave me this GEC #71.
I absolutely love it! He modified the blade shape and rounded the handle covers.
Now I think it is a whole lot more comfortable and useful. Thank you very much, my friend.
He also had a really cool lanyard with a stag bead that he'd made, but I'm putting that one on a slip I'm finishing up for myself.

Just in time for Micarta Monday
That’s a real beaut John, that “tool” steel ain’t around much anymore 😃:thumbsup:
