Today is Confederate Memorial Day ... Still a State Holiday here in Alabama as well as Mississippi and South Carolina.
And still observed in Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina, Texas and Tennessee. Formerly recognized in Georgia, Louisiana and Virginia.
U.S. Mail still ran today ... Confederate Memorial Day is not a Federal Holiday of course LOL.
Enjoying the day with a CASE COPPERHEAD and scents of Confederate Jasmine in bloom in the sanctuary behind the house.
Just came into bloom three days ago, so will become much more profuse in the coming days.
My Great Great Grandfather was a Captain in the Alabama 58th and wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga in September 1863.
Subsequently he was in poor health the remainder of his life and was skin and bones in this picture taken shortly before his passing in 1892.
The fella on the tri-cycle? ... I knew him. My Great Grandfather didn't pass on until 1968 (when I was 15). Spent lots of enjoyable time up on his farm in the country.
Ghosts that are with me.
EDIT: The fella on the tri-cycle in the picture above is pictured standing right in the picture below
Taken on the occasion of the yearly YMCA Father/Son Banquet in 1961
We had the most family generations present that night ... 4 generations
