Hi All, Greetings from Australia. Firstly, my apology for not posting a photo. I am a proper technology numpty and have not figured out how to do it. I don't really post at all here, but I do follow this thread and very much enjoy seeing what you are all carrying.
I have a question for you about sharpening a scandi grind blade. Do let me know if I ought post this elsewhere. Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your thoughts.
I have a number of Mr H Roselli's fabulous and inexpensive fixed blade scandi grind knives. Until today, I had been sharpening by holding the large primary bevel against a flat (diamond then ceramic) stone. Result has been a serviceable but delicate edge. I have just tried a new approach. First, flat diamond sharpener against the primary bevel for a few passes. Second, elevate the angle and grind a very small 'micro' secondary bevel at the cutting edge. Just sufficient to create a small burr along the length. Third, go to the other side and gently remove the burr. Finally, a few passes of the newly created micro bevel over a leather strop to put a bit of polish on it. I am very pleased with the result - now shaving sharp and, I hope, a more sturdy cutting edge. My 'micro' bevel is just that - hardly visible.
My questions - does this seem sensible to you? Will it cause any longer term issue regarding the profile of the primary bevel? Should I have been doing this along as it does seem to give me a better result?
Regards and thanks very much.
