What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I’ve always liked the borderless backs on Bee cards. Nice #71, too.

I see that on sale ads ~ “Good Runner. Needs Fixed.” or on ebay, etc. and want to tell them ~ “TO BE!” “You forgot the danged verb!”🤨

Never realized it might be a regional thing.
I had an aunt who always slipped an r into words like wash...
Yes, I enjoy hearing different dialects.
The car needs warshed, and these knives need sharpened.

Same here Rachel :) Great-looking pair there

Is it time to break out the dialect quiz again? 😉😁

I got my wife to start liking beets by shredding them raw in salad. We eat the tops and roots raw or cooked, but never boiled.

I think this was the only time in my life I’ve ever handled a beet. 🤣

I’ve been totin’ this Beer Scout the last couple days.

Really nice picture of a really nice knife ! 😊
Thanks. That means a lot coming from you, based on the quality of your knives and pictures.
Gonna hit 95F here today. Feel bad for those seeing 100+ temps. Brutal heat.
Two woods for Wednesday. Have I mentioned how much I like this Boker Club Gent's Knife? :D
The little Crotts designed Dozier is a handy little cutter. The blue Maple Burl covers are striking.

I’ve said it before, but your collection of small fixed blades is great to see.
Took my truck for service to the same place I always do. It’s a shop run by a friend I’ve known since Jr. High. His dad started this shop in 1961, and my buddy has worked there all his life. He serviced my truck while I sat and talked to his dad, in green leather chairs with broken springs. They sit in the same corner as they did when he first opened the shop. In fact, everything is in the same place as it was when he opened the shop, it’s a frozen moment in time. He told me about his 8 years in the navy and the time he spent in Japan and Hawaii, or Ha-why-ya, as he says it. He’s earned the right to say it anyway he chooses. They are the same stories he tells me every time I take my truck for service, and I enjoy them more each time. He asks about my family and tells me that my wife is a keeper and that I’m lucky to have her. Then he tells me what a sweet lady my mom was and reminds me that he used to change her oil too. He says he and his wife used to go to the restaurant where my mom worked because she treated them right, and he’d leave a good tip. He tells me all these things in the time it takes my buddy to service my truck, perfect timing, a fine Swiss timepiece. I paid my bill and he sent me home with some vegetables from his garden, a handshake, and a thank you. There is nothing like a small town. 😊View attachment 1875963
Sounds like an awesome place, Todd, and nice people. Its rare to have an enjoyable experience getting your vehicle serviced 👍
Thank you, Todd.
I promise to take better pictures tomorrow. :)

Thank you, Jack.
Finally reached Anaheim.

Thank you, Jon.
I hope you’re enjoying your trip, John. I didn’t take you as an Anaheim kind of guy. I was thinking fishing somewhere cool.
Thanks. You’ll have to let me know what players and teams he collects. I’ll see what I have
Thanks, Jon. He is a huge Angels fan, so naturally Trout and Ohtani but he likes anyone on the Angels. Other guys he really likes are Vlad Jr. and Aaron Judge. We just spent 12 days in Tahiti and one of his highlights was our layover in LA. He wanted to rent a car and drive by the Angels stadium. 😁

Beautiful knife Paul, and that cloud photo is spectacular. We are supposed to get that blast of dryer air this afternoon or evening. Looking forward to it for sure. 😎👍

Thanks Bart. I think it changes daily, kinda fun to watch. 😊👍

…but it never gets old. 😎👍

Ah, the hotel shot, looking good John. Hope you’re vacation is off to a good start.
😊👍
Thanks Todd, last night was a nice reprieve from the oppressive heat and humidity, unfortunately it was short lived and returned again today:rolleyes:

Thanks, Jack. :)
Cool pair to start off your hot week!:thumbsup::cool:

5K Qs 5K Qs Thanks, it's a Stockman - not sure they did a Serp Jack in the Black Box series? The blades are all low riding on this pattern and that's another plus. Here when it arrived.

Thanks for the additional info about, and photo of, your Black Box stockman, Will. :):thumbsup: It's a beauty; I always prefer a stockman with a smooth, slender profile. I'm glad to have a sowbelly stockman from the Black Box series.

Pretty as a picture! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
No defibrillator necessary if you have that jigged bone WCLF to open up and give your heart rate a jolt! 🤓

I found this Sword Brand EO jack a few years ago to match Grandpa’s knife, which I don’t want to carry.
My Grandpa’s family came from Scotland, and found work in the Eastern Tennesse coal mines. His father was killed in a huge mine disaster in 1906, leaving his Mom to raise three boys and a daughter. She took in washing and other odd jobs, raised a huge garden, and the boys hunted small game and foraged wild plants like watercress, dandelion, huckleberries, etc to survive. At some point, he left home and made his way. I’m not sure when, probably in the ‘20s or ‘30s, he saved up and bought a Camillus Sword Brand Jackknife, which he carried for the rest of his life. I remember sitting on his lap and him letting me handle it. That is the knife with which he showed me how to sharpen a blade.
When he passed, Grandma gave me his knives. His old jack had a lot of sharpening wear, and the secondary spring had broken, but it was HIS knife, and I think he carried it to the end.
This one makes a good user, and brings me good memories.
Used it yesterday in the garden. Cleaned off some plant residue, re-oiled it, and got it again today.View attachment 1873892
Fascinating to read some of your family background, Jeff; thanks!:cool::thumbsup: Did your ancestors have an influence on your musical interests, too?
(By the way, you recently posted a pic including an old German "Lion Knife" with a notch in the blade edge. I meant to ask you, but forgot until now: did that knife ever belong to Harry Old Engineer Old Engineer ? It looks familiar to me, but for some reason I hadn't associated it with you.)

Good Morning Porch Friends
Getting ready for a trip and leaving tomorrow.
Only taking my Usual Lamb, put a fresh edge on it and a drop of oil in the joint.

Lambsfoot looks good to go, John.:cool::cool:
As your buddy Roy R. (and Dale) would sing, "Happy Trails to You" while you're tripping!

Mustang Monday?
Primble Primble I'd like to second that your Camillus' are very fun too look at, thanks for showing us Rob!

@Amir Fleschwund Jeff thank you so much for sharing your memories/stories of your family! I have one of Grandpa's slipjoints myself and although it's just an old Imperial it is *my* most precious knife, I imagine you feel much the same? I've been carrying mine occasionally, but I do like your notion of buying a second for carry, helps that they're only about 20$ New old stock. Also, looks like Pa sharpened it on the bottom of a coffee cup to a zero-point edge, which I find likely given his disposition on spending $, so it would be nice to have a more useable edge.

Is there a porch introduction thread somewhere that I haven't found yet? Seems like many in here are on a first-name basis. I will learn all your names eventually, not my strong suit though. My name is Frederick, but my friends usually call me just "F.C.", so please "Frederick" or "FC", I do not enjoy "Fred" or "Freddy" much. ephsea--->FC 👋

KhYk7idh.jpg
I enjoyed reading about the knife you have from your grandfather, and about your username, FC!:thumbsup::cool:
I'm not aware of a "porch introduction thread", but there's an old "mug shot" thread in which members have posted photos of themselves:
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/traditional-mug-shots.1009881/
There was also an old thread in which members explained the origins of their usernames, and although I thought it was very interesting, I can't remember what the thread was called, so I haven't been able to find it with the Search function.

Both knives and the pasta salad all look real healthy, Steve!:thumbsup::cool:

Started the week with these two. :)
Love the handle textures on that pair, JJ!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Dollar for dollar, I'm not sure I can beat the $20 this Swiss Army 1 cost me. It's a great little knife. :)

oz3Lj5J.jpg
Totally agree with you on the Swiss Army 1/ Solo! I received one as a retirement gift, and carry it every day.:cool::thumbsup:
(I'd still like to find a Pioneer Settler some day, which adds a pen blade on the opposite end from the spearpoint. 🤓)

Thanks, Gary. We made it back home last night. It was a fun trip and a wonderful way to celebrate.
Sounds great, Bart! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
I'll bet the dogs and cattle were glad to see you back (well, at least the dogs). 🤓

Record-breaking temperatures here in Yorkshire, so I'm cooling my hands on these two, my Waynorth Lambsfoot, and a Random Tuesday Ankermesser
