What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

That is the GS Mini-e Koa+ . That and the 717 are both out, so this weekend I’ll take a better knives and guitars picture. I’m seeing John Hiatt in concert again soon and am learning some of his newer songs (which are really good).

Old pic but have these ones today.

John Hiatt is a treasure.

Will probably mix it up tomorrow, but still this pair today. Been a fun few days of visiting with my parents at their cabin - golf, hikes, and lots of food, but we’re headed home today.

Also celebrating our 16th anniversary today! :)

Happy 16th! Very nice pic, Mike.

I like that old Canadian belt knife myself !😍 Has great character.
Thanks, buddy ;)

Got it on my belt again today, after bringing it back to razor sharp while watching Perry Mason last night.
Digging through my tubes, contemplating buying a pair of matched NOS EL84s for just in case backup. The ones I have in this amp now, Telam, which I think is a Russian military tube, I bought online from a guy in Ukraine. I wonder hiw he’s doing...
These tubes are still strong, and I think are the best power tubes I’ve ever had in this amp, but not having backups is asking for trouble. Looking at some of my regular vendora online, a pair of matched New Old Stock power tubes is going to cost more than the latest and greatest from GEC.

I did swap one of the preamp tubes last night. After Mrs Fleschwund leaves for work, I’m going to crank it up and make sure all’s well. It’s on duty tonight!7E65548B-AF73-4911-8084-2E606C2E57D1.jpeg

Have a Super Saturday!

I have, and I want to like it, but it didn't quite inspire me. Maybe if I see one in person I'll get excited about it.

Right, I think there are some things to like about it and few others that make me pass.
I took another look, and realized my main objection to the Weekender won't change by seeing it in person. I just really dislike putting caplifters on everything. I don't need one on my keychain or one my watch band or on the sole of my flip-flops or on my sunglasses or shirt pocket or hat brim or wallet or belt buckle. And I don't need one on my knife. </rant>

… so unrelated but related re: tubes … yet another indicator that I am old - when I was a kid, my dad would take me to the hardware store (Flatbush Ave. Brooklyn) and right inside the front door was a tube tester. Big ole console lookin beast and I was so enamored with that thing I would stand there and wait for people to plug tubes in … what an amazing bit of magic!
I’m almost strictly acoustic but curious - what amp you rockin with those 84’s?
Thanks for sharing and conjuring memories!
Getting the day off to a good start. Have a great day everyone. 😊

Beautiful pair there! Is that an IRJ? Do you recall what they call that bone? (Had an early IRJ in ebony with the slot in the blade, and later one with Amber Stag bone I think … a couple more cases of WWIT?)
At any rate, lovely knives and thanks for sharing!

Nice Davison
Thank you Tim. 😊👍

Thanks Ed. I don’t know what they called it. This knife was a treasured gift from John JohnDF JohnDF . Maybe he will chim in and educate both of us.

Still hot. Staying home again today with no plans other than watching NASCAR Infinity and putting some water with a soaker hose on the tree we had cut back last week or so. Even so, I'll have this Large Sod Buster Jr. with Liner Lock in my pocket just in case I run into something unexpected while in the back yard. Fried Spam sandwich for lunch !!!

Carrying my A. Wright lambsfoot because this morning I'm reliving the glorious far distant past, the heady long-ago day of personal victory, when I won Jack Black Jack Black 's Yorkshire Day giveaway. (And ate my first chip butty!) Ah, to drift back in memory all the way to 2021. These kids in 2022 don't know what they're missing!
All that plus my usual Proper today.

Jack is running another giveaway this year (over in the Guardians thread) - go for it! Even if you don't win, you get to eat a chip butty, which is pretty dang tasty.

Just a plain old Schrade today

Jim, are you sure that “plain old” belong in the same sentence as Schrade?
Nice 881.

If I wore flip flaps, I wouldn’t want a bottle opener on them, for sure.

You’re right. Those of us who don’t drink might need a bottle opener in the kitchen drawer, but not on our pocket knives.

Yes, a sad day when the racks of GE, Westinghouse, Sylvania, Mullard, etc tubes and the testers disappeared from every drug and hardware store. If only I could turn back time, and buy up a lifetime supply.

The new production tubes from China just can’t match the quality of the old ones.
So we have to pay a premium for NOS.

The EL 84s are for my little Mesa Boogie ~ a Subway Rocket. It’s the perfect size for our venue, small enough to turn up some, but not too much, because it can get loud, and is much more portable than my Pro Reverb. Between the preamp tubes I’m using, and how I set it, I’m getting a real nice clean/edge of breakup sound with it. I also use a couple of preamp and boost pedals to push it harder when needed, leave them on, and control it with the volume knob on my Teles.
The Pro Reverb takes a pair or 6L6s. It is a fantastic sounding amp but heavy!
I also have a little ‘65 Champ, which uses one 6V6 and makes 5 watts. Great sounding amp, but too small for playing live unmiked.

Fortunately, tubes last a long time for me!

Thanks for asking, Ed!

Nice 881.

Jeff, very true. There’s nothing plain about it’s capability for sure. I wish I could go back in time to when I was a kid in the 70’s and early 80’s and take a poll on what the Old timers were carrying around. I know my one granddad had his frontier stockman. I have a small case knife that my other granddad carried on his small farm. I remember him pulling out of pocket knife to sharpen a carpenters pencil or cut twine off of a bill but I just don’t remember ever seeing what it was.
