What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Saturdays are for cleaning ...
Was going to make a bunch of random Internet strangers people mad today
But first, decided to scrape out my Griswold Cast Iron Skillet with this 86 before tossing the skillet in the dishwasher
A clean skillet is a happy skillet :)

Some of todays very interesting finds in historic Burford and Woodstock.

Enjoyed the photos, especially the knife with the brass handles with athletes!
joeradza joeradza has been posting a similar one quite often recently.

Beautiful blue jigged bone on that Moki lockback! What steel does Moki use for that blade?

Look on the bright side. You could have had the Bullnose open in your hand instead of the remote.
😁 😁

That's memorable Garry  Nice find

Thanks, Jack.
Pleasant black/white pairings, Jack & Will!

Really like the detail you added to the bear since the first time you posted it!
Have you ever considered offering your services to people who'd like polar bear hair jigging on their wood-handled knives??

Thank you, GT. :)

I had the square corners on my GEC #76 rounded off, and they are now quite comfortable... you might try that.
That's an idea to investigate; thanks!

Notable pair, John!

The Middle Man Jack is always a good choice... I carried one a lot in High School. 🤠
I thought you'd like that 2-blade jack. And although it doesn't have round bolsters, there's no crisp lines or sharp corners on the bolsters.

Never thought about that Gary, so I laid my “copper top” on my arm and took a picture. Kinda looks like it’s laying on top of a hairy loaf of wheat bread! Won’t be posting that photo! 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks Gary. 😎👍
Interesting experiment, Todd! Maybe you could start a thread called "Traditional Knives and Body Parts that Resemble Food".

We did, thanks, Gary! Mom appreciated me filling their fridge.

I’m enjoying this German made Canadian Belt Knife. It’s on a dangler sheat on my belt, and tucked into my pocket. I have more tomatoes to trellis at my friend’s farm, and while holding twine tight in one hand, it’s much faster and easier to pull this out with one hand than it is openening a folder. I’d rather be going fishing ~ I haven’t been since the last time I went.
Glad to hear the visit went well. Terrific knife trio you've posted, Jeff!

Cool pair there Gary 😎👍
Thanks again, Jack.

Will probably mix it up tomorrow, but still this pair today. Been a fun few days of visiting with my parents at their cabin - golf, hikes, and lots of food, but we’re headed home today.

Also celebrating our 16th anniversary today! :)

Happy Anniversary, Mike!
Is that a big mosquito trying to fly off with your fixed blade?
I don't recall ever seeing a shot of you without a beard until now (and I hope to never see a shot of your spouse with one).

🤣

I remember coming out of a meeting where the new word, "stakeholder" was used several times. My good friend and fellow engineer, Gene, drily commented, "I thought a stakeholder was an assistant vampire killer." 🧛‍♂️
I about fell over laughing 😂

Excellent choice :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks for the visual about bolster mods, Mike!

I knew it was a compliment, Gary. I was just messing around. Although I didn’t know the history of the word. Interesting and kinda odd.
:thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Beautiful summer day -- took the dogs to the lake for a hike. 73 Scout was along for the ride...

That stag 73 is magnificent!

Todays carry. Long day walking around the mall for back to school shopping for the kids. Can't believe they go back on August 1. I remember not going back until September. Happy friday everyone. Beer O clock in about 7 hours.

Seems like I've seen quite a few ebony lambsfoot examples posted lately!

Part of the appeal of the Proper (for me, at least) is that it feels like a blend of traditional patterns - it's a little bit canoe, a little bit sodbuster, a little bit native, and so on. But it's not any of those things, either. It is its own thing. (Although the Fox Livri is so close, maybe the Proper can be considered a new pattern?)
Thanks for your perspective on the appeal of your Proper.
(Is it also a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll??)

Thank you.
I don't know what the SAK model is, but I think someone has called it an explorer before.
I wouldn't put much stock in that, since it was probably me.
Here's a link to SAKWiki's page on the Explorer model; looks like that's probably what you have.

Well, ALL my chances were found to be ... fat
So switching to a big fat Stag Canoe to commiserate

A stag canoe can provide a HUGE amount of consolation (but maybe not more than a billion dollars' worth).

Mike, do you think you might be making it too personal??

A clean skillet is a happy skillet

But now you have to re-season it. ☹️
Best way to clean cast iron after use:
While the pan is still hot and after you poured the grease into the grease pot, wipe out with a wet rag no soap.
The pan should be hot enough that the water from the rag evaporates when you're finished wiping it out.

Any time you use soap on cast iron cookwear, it has to be re-seasoned, which is a Regal Royal P.I.A. Among other things, that thin layer of carbon in (and on the exterior sides) helps prevent rust, and helps prevent foods from sticking. (if the skillet or pot was preheated before adding the food.)

I love cast iron skillets, griddles, corn bread molds, dutch ovens ... I only used them for 60 odd years before I had the stroke. Cast iron cookwear lasts a while. I inherited a 10 inch skillet from my maternal great grandmother (c1895 ~1966) that she received from her mommy (c1870-1963) that great-great grandma received as a wedding present in the late 1880' or very early 1890's (before Great Grandma and her siblings were born). Was one of my favorite skillets to cook with. If not for not doing my own cooking for about 4 years now, I'd still be using it.

Well Gary, one(1) person in Illinois won the whole dang $1.28B (or so) !!!
That right there is a whole lot of a bunch of Canoes. Sharp ones too ... and I do have a pretty good one :)

I'm a total heathen about cast iron cookware too. Dawn and a scotchbrite is what they see all the time. Dry them with a little heat, follow with a quick light canola oil wipedown and they're ready for the next time.

Thank you, unfortunately I have misplaced my polar bear hair jigging tool.😉🤔🤫

Cool combination JJ :)
Thanks a bunch, Jack!!! :)
Yorkshire Day weekend here, with Yorkshire Day itself falling on Monday (August 1st) :) Unfortunately, the weather is poor, and I've hurt my back, but there's a giveaway running in the Guardians thread for anyone who fancies helping me celebrate (link in my signature) Double Yorkshire stag for me today :) Have a great weekend everyone

A perfect pairing of Yorkshire Stag beauties to kick off the weekend festivities; I'm hoping your sore back has not taken you out of the action, pain I know well! :(👍👍

Happy Anniversary, Mike!

Thanks GT. That sure was a giant mosquito. Thankfully I was able to fight it off, and the knife went safely back in its sheath ;)

Too warm for the beard, but it'll probably come back in the Fall. Seems to be a bit more grey each time it returns :)

On the back I have no button-hook, and I don't have the twirly thing (which could be lost) or the short separate thing. I have tweezers and toothpick in the end.
So not an explorer, we now know. Thanks.

John Hiatt is a treasure.

Happy 16th! Very nice pic, Mike.

Thanks, buddy ;)

Got it on my belt again today, after bringing it back to razor sharp while watching Perry Mason last night.
Digging through my tubes, contemplating buying a pair of matched NOS EL84s for just in case backup. The ones I have in this amp now, Telam, which I think is a Russian military tube, I bought online from a guy in Ukraine. I wonder hiw he’s doing...
These tubes are still strong, and I think are the best power tubes I’ve ever had in this amp, but not having backups is asking for trouble. Looking at some of my regular vendora online, a pair of matched New Old Stock power tubes is going to cost more than the latest and greatest from GEC.

I did swap one of the preamp tubes last night. After Mrs Fleschwund leaves for work, I’m going to crank it up and make sure all’s well. It’s on duty tonight!View attachment 1884992
And for Schradurday observations, these faithful and cheerful companions...View attachment 1884977

Have a Super Saturday!
Awesome pair of schrades. How did the cranking up go?

Jeff, very true. There’s nothing plain about it’s capability for sure. I wish I could go back in time to when I was a kid in the 70’s and early 80’s and take a poll on what the Old timers were carrying around. I know my one granddad had his frontier stockman. I have a small case knife that my other granddad carried on his small farm. I remember him pulling out of pocket knife to sharpen a carpenters pencil or cut twine off of a bill but I just don’t remember ever seeing what it was.
Childhood memories like these are awesome. I wish I could go back only to buy knives that were available then and hide them till now
